I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S10e, and I want some tips. I've never mained an Android phone, and I haven't mained an Android tablet in a couple of years. Any advice or tips on making the iPhone to Android switch less painful? I plan to use the PixelOS Rom, though I'm open to suggestions for others if any have some.

I mean my first advice would ahve been to just buy a great mid ranger phone for like 300$ instead of a 5 year old galaxy. Don't expect great battery life thats for a start.

Else well just get the apps you need on there and just start using it. It's not that different just have to agree to some differences. Since you are going for stock android rom then it's gonna be even more generic to use.

So overall have patience don't rely on what you are used to and just install the apps you need.

You're going to decide you hate android if you install a third party ROM as your first experience.

Just go vanilla, install from the google play store rather than going wild sideloading anything from anywhere.

Don't buy an ancient phone.

I got it in a lot of other phones for 40 bucks (including shipping). I knew that would be a problem, but I’m switching from an iPhone XR so

You bought the Exynos one right? (Normally only the US gets Snapdragon, which in recent times is kind of useless for installing custom OS)

You know, I’m not sure. I guess we’ll see.

Yeahhh. I’m gonna switch back to stock if I don’t like it, just figured I’d get the interface that I’m more used to (Ive used modern pixel a lot more than modern Samsung, just haven’t mained either)

recommend Sony as they're usually pretty close to stock, without all the google issues (like no sd card slots or whatever)

one problem with Samsung is, they have their own on os running on top of android... its awful,  but some people seem to like it, so maybe installing a custom os aint the worst idea.

You got multiple phones for $40 each, or all of them for $40 altogether?

Samsung phones (and their OS) do NOT age well.

Which part of it is awful?

The buggy part. Or the part where they have duplicated apps to the ones Android provides. Like having two contacts and calendars. And you can't remove useless apps. i switched to Pixel after many Samsung. And it is refreshing to use a clean OS and only have the apps I actually want.

i had to give up my last Samsung phone since after 3 years despite 2 factory resets it never worked right.

Maybe they improved since the Galaxy 9+. they must have improved, because there was no way to get worse. and i had about 4 Samsung phones before i gave up.

Well i have the A33 and i don't remember having any bugs, but yeah the apps are slightly annoying, not really a problem after putting them all in 1 folder and forgetting about them

One thing I do like about samsung- they keep their services running for a long time. The Galaxy Store still updates to the latest version AND can install apps perfectly fine on a GALAXY S4

yeah that's not bad, i guess. i didn't know that,  never used (aka downloaded something from) the galaxy store, despite owning a Samsung phone. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

but i did install Huawei app store (its similarly... boring xD)

what @Lurking said, plus pretty much everything they changed or added from stock android,  like the silly "knox" app (takes forever to launch) "samsung pass" (technically nice, but unfortunately also almost impossible to get your passwords off it, once you'd want to change phone brand for example) the device care app (mcafee, really? 💀) the overall ui (icons specifically) the clocks (where's my Sony clock? T-T) literally almost everything is convoluted, sluggish, slow and cumbersome (not surprisingly since its running *on top of android*)

also the fingerprint sensor doesn't even work 70% of the time... yikes!

The fingerprint sensor is pretty slow, but only on lower end phones, on my friend's S23U and S24U the fingerprint sensor is almost instant. I haven't had any other issues that you mentioned, the samsung pass works pretty fast for me, the clocks app is also perfectly fine, mcafee didn't come with it, and the phone doesn't feel slow at all, especially the high end ones

Really? From the reviews and things I've watched, the S10e fingerprint reader is incredibly fast.

Fast enough, at least for me that is.

And I forgot Bixby or whatever that is called. It comes up on accident every once a while and can't be disabled. the hardware is supposed to be good. and if they offered a clean android OS, i would look into buying a Samsung. but not with their non-removable crapware.

People here complain about Windows bloat and go great lengths to clean up windows. But for Windows, you actually can remove or disable the crap. For Samsung, you can't.

I believe I can remove what I need to using ADB, right?

Misopening bixby should be considered just like you mistapped a wrong app / pressing a wrong shortcut keys than the one you want to open IMO. Close it and proceed with opening the correct app / shortcut keys.

As for Windows nowadays, unless you full on poweruser it some Windows services that you might not want to be on all the time might reactivate itself silently after certain period of time. Heck, Windows Update doesn't even have enough "in your face" options to make it less likely to mess with your system for casual / non tech savvy users.

In my years of using S9 and S10e, I misopened Bixby a few times, all of it due to the existence of special Bixby physical button on the left side. Which then I countered by using a phone case, then cutted off the Bixby button part of the case, so that button will be really recessed compared to other buttons.

On my S24, which doesn't have that special button, I haven't at all.

Also since I never gave it the permission it wanted, it will just first show up a page where I need to press accept button before I can use Bixby.

And if my mom (S9+) never mentioned it or felt troubled by it, I honestly think that tech savvy people shouldn't make too much fuss about it. I mean... I'm talking about a person who :

1. Doesn't know how to change brightness

2. Doesn't know how to check and change phone from silent mode to not silent

3. Unknowingly and accidentally changed settings to silent mode and brightness to the point that the brightness slider is fully to the left side.

That's after like 5 years of her using the phone.

And before some rando thinks I didn't teach her how to, I did, more than a dozen times. Every single time she asked for my help about those things actually, and it's much more often than you think. I think the current highest record is 3 times each in a week. xD
