I have an old PC with an i7 8700 and a 1050ti, I want to use it for 3 things at once. As a brains for old TV that can't even run netflix by itself, as a local file server, and as a minecraft server, how can i do all 3 things on it at once?

Docker or VM's will be your friend here.

You could do it all on a single OS without containers, but keeping things segregated will be cleaner.

nah. not worth the hassle.

file sharing is just a thing the OS does in the background, and then all you need to figure out is a way to manage the minecraft server without commandeering the netflix.

If you're wanting to use streaming services like Netflix with the TV, PC is not the way go as they limit resolutions compared to something like a ShieldTV.

ASUS B650E-F GAMING WIFI + R7 7800X3D + 2x Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30-36-36-76  + ASUS RTX 4090 TUF Gaming OC

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) Backup: GL.iNet GL-X3000/ Spitz AX Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz) WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz)
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~1200Mbit down, 115Mbit up, variable)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

Well the current console that i have for the TV literally can't playback 1080p video, and i don't really get how will it limit resolution anyway

They limit what resolutions they will stream to you as its easier to pirate on a PC.

Oh wow, but I don't think it matters, as we have a 1080p TV anyway lol. Is there a way to install linux on this PC, with some kind of TV desktop environment that is switchable to a regular one, so i can use it for TV and to setup the server?

I'd be tempted to just use Windows here if your used to the interface as all these programs work fine on windows.

But yea basically any linux distro lets you run the server utilities and a de for media playback.
