That's a board, what's the cooler and the problem ?

There's no way to mount the plate directly on the board, I gotta hold it

Yes, if you are mounting a cooler that requires a backplate after the motherboard is already installed in the case, you do usually need to hold it in place until you get at least one of the screws in.

This is one of the reasons why, when you're installing the cooler initially, it's done outside of the case.

I had to do this when installing the Vetroo V5 into my now secondary computer. It was difficult, but doable.

You can also use tape to hold the backplate in place, as long as the force you use to drive in the screws isn't too great.

Another option would be to take the motherboard out of the case and install the cooler with the motherboard on a box or something, or you can get someone else to hold the backplate up for a few seconds while you get a couple of screws in.

EDIT: Another idea - if you have a box or something of the right size to fit through the hole in the back panel of the case, you could put your case on top of the box, and have that prop up the backplate - assuming your case isn't so heavy that you'd risk cracking the motherboard if it put too much pressure on it.

You don't need to.  I removed my AIO and put on a Peerless Assassin inside the case.

You need to figure out how it attaches, if it is screws and springs, you need to push until the threads catch.

Yes, it can be a good bit of pressure.

I've definitely never done this and probably never will...?

i also close all side panels before turning the pc on for the first time,  sue me... 😂

that said im not sure i understand ops issue... don't all coolers need some kind of "brackets"...??

where are ops brackets? im thinking that's the issue.

@koopa990  what cpu do you have (which we conveniently can't see due to the beautiful blob of thermal paste lol) and what cpu cooler do you have?

yeah. all cpu coolers need a backplate,  i don't think that's actually the issue,  we need the correct information for parts in order to help you.

i LOVE remounting the cooler while the backplate is just a loose useless thing threatening all SMD parts of your mobo... TESAFILM to the rescue!!! 😂

@YoungBlade that's actually why all cases have cutouts in the back so you don't have to mount the cooler outside (how barbaric!) but it's indeed a pain.. you can hold it as @freeagent says, but really better to use something like not super adhesive tape, aka tesafilm, or whatever you guys use.... America has tesafilm, right? 😭

It may be easier for you to tape the backplate to the board, if you're having trouble screwing the cooler in while it's in the case and holding the backplate at the same time. Otherwise removing the board from the system and doing it on a flat surface with the board on top of the backplate holding it down is much easier.

The AMD stock coolers that are installed by screwing into the backplate can be a little tricky if you've never done anything with that type of mounting before. Typically once you get one in it should be easier to get the rest. Keep in mind you do not tighten them all the way one at a time. You get one threaded, then thread the rest, only a couple turns just enough to get them all started, you then gradually tighten them all in an alternating pattern, evenly tightening them, you do not fully tighten them individually or one at a time. There are guides on how to install these coolers properly.

Also remember to repaste your CPU, if you are installing the cooler with the intentions of using it with the past looking like it does in the picture, just know that you'll likely run into overheating.

the brackets may also come with your cooler but wraith uses the standard ones that come with your mobo iirc. you also definitely need a backplate.
