I am in need of an extra pcie.x4 slot on my motherboard for an expansion card, problem is that the motherboard in question, a Gigabyte X570 Gaming X, only has 2 full size x16/x8 slots and 2 x1 slots.

In the top slot I have my gpu, a GTX-1060, in the first x1 slot I have a sound card, in the other full size slot I currently have an ElGato CamLink Pro, and the last x1 is empty. I am trying to install my 4k60pro mk2 along side the Camlink pro. Both are stated as only needing pciex4 so my first though was to put a pcie bifurcation card to get the second port I need, either this or this one as examples. That however would put both capture cards directly intersecting my case and unsupported so my next thought was to use a pcie riser cable and put the expansion cards outside of the case.

So my questions are;

1) The second full size pcie slot is just a x8, if I use a bifurcation card that says it is for x16 would this still work and give me 2 x4 slots?

2) Would the bifurcation card still work over a pcie riser cable?

3) Would it be better to use the bifurcation card on the x16 slot and move my gpu down to the x8 slot?

4) If I use a riser cable and put the expansion cards outside of the case, what would be a good way to secure the attachment points?

The pc is strictly used for streaming in a 2 pc setup so I am not worried if I lose a bit of process power from my GPU in a slower slot, its a mish-mash of old parts from upgrading my primary PC and the 4k60pro is just a new addition I am hoping to still be able to use in it.

Can you get a USB capture card? That seems like a much better solution. Or get a single card that can capture 2 streams at once. Or get a differnt board with more slots.

Does the bios list bifurcation of the x8 as a option? It typically isn't and you need to use the top slot.

That second x16 slot also seems to be a x4 running off the chipset and won't support bifurcation

does your board support those risers cards

The JMT PCI-E 4.0 x16 1 to 2 Expansion Card Gen3 lists my motherboard as a supported motherboard

I currently have that PC partially dismantled so I haven't looked at the BIOS yet, but it is listed as a BIOS function in the owners manual, but it does not list a specific slot.

I am just looking to get use out of my old capture card, it used to be in my primary PC but I have since upgraded from the mk2 to the new 4k Pro in my primary PC. Moving to a different motherboard would be more than the cost of a bifurcation chip and a riser cable so I am just trying to make use of what I already own on the cheap.

And you are correct, I just realized after looking through my owners manual that the second fullsize slot is indeed only x4 not x8 so I would need to move the GPU down to that slot if I went the bifurcation route.

If you have a Zen 3 CPU you might be able to pull it off. That board looks pretty ancient, and the setup would be pretty janky.
