Hi, first time builder (noob) here,

I'm building a water-cooled PC, and my motherboard is an ROG X870E Crosshair Hero. Maybe I'm missing a setting, but I can only set a fan curve based on either CPU or GPU temp, not a maximum of both. They both share the same radiator, so I want the fans to ramp up based on the maximum temperature of the CPU and GPU, not just one of them. Is this possible in BIOS or do I need third-party software? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Use 3rd party, like maybe FanControl

BIOS fan setting is limited in capability.

Well if theyre both connected to the same rad, that means theyre both getting their cooling from the same place, so which ever one runs hotter, say the cpu, have that be the master for both. No need to bother with the gpu settings then. Its not going to hurt the gpu to get extra cooled if it ramps up to cool the cpu.

some games use more CPU (e.g. CS, cities skylines, etc.) and some use more GPU (e.g. cyberpunk, black myth wukong, etc.) so there is no way to "go with the one that runs hotter", hence needing to take maximum temp.

thats one point why one loop per part. and it a cost of like an extra pump and res.

there probably a temp controller that can ramp fans based on case temps instead of gpu and cpu temps.

2 separate loops = a lot of wasted cooling potential when both components aren't heavily loaded (it's not about cost as I have spent well above 5K on parts). Anyhow, a hardware temp controller seems like overkill. Surely I'm not the first person with this configuration or the first person to need this.

not if you put 3x 560rads on each...😎

 

back in the day when pwm came out people would set the fans the as loud as they want at idle and max when gaming.

before that there was controller that had temps on it that you collect and adjust based off that.

then there was the speedfan was confusing to setup but didnt have to deal with the bios fan setup.

most mb have better fan curves these days.

now adays there FanControl (have not used it yet as i have w7 so... no idea how it works)

but im guessing it like a fan curve and accesses to fan headers to control.

 

anyway i think most setup with a water temp how they get the temp to the software i dont no maybe there are temp sensors on the mb?🤔 there are controllers but there meh at best. i guess if your spending a few hundred on water cooling you can spend on a controller too i guess.
