It is not common that consumer SSDs overheat, if the case is properly ventilated.
It's also safe to assume that if a SSD doesn't come with a heatsink, it probably doesn't need one.

More often than not, manufacturers attach heatsinks as a gimmick, to give that "GaMiNg!" and Premium look. There is a benefit, but most SSDs, based on my experience, don't really need it.

If your motherboard comes with a M2 compartment with a heatsink on top, you will want a SSD without a heatsink anyway.

OP gave the pic of a pcie 4.0 SSD, which always runs hotter than pcie 3.0 SSD, and therefore I recommend some kind of heat sink even if its just a plate from the mobo. Without that or optionally a formal heat sink for pci 4, expect thermal throttling at best and somewhat lower lifespan at worst. For pci 3, I have measured max temps at thermal throttle if it's under a GPU with no heat sink.

So the assumption FliPOx gave is weak and vague.

We also don't know if OPs motherboard puts the M.2 near the main GPU slot, like many mid to high end mobos do, which in my experience increases SSD temps up to 10C even if the case is well ventilated. In that situation, a mobo plate or heat sink is imperative for pci 4 SSD.

Hello since it's black Friday and both my pc HDD and SSD are both full so I'm getting a 4tb now but I can save like £40 if the m.2 don't need a heatsink but can't find much online unless you already own the heatsink I'll attach a screenshot of the one I'll be getting

i think you're better off spending the extra 40 pounds on a SSD from a more established brand...........

Both Lexar (brand name) and the current owner Longsys have been arround for a long time...

Yeah that's what I was thinking because of it being pcie 4 but also can't remember if my mobo had a heatsink for the SSD so I'll be taking the side off shortly to check so I'll be able to check then but this is the mobo I have but yeah I can't remember if that big black metal heatsink bit was for the m.2 or if it was just a cover for something else but i believe now im looking at it that it's for the ssd

Lexar is an established brand and for the more premium ones it's more then £40 difference it's like minimum £100 difference

China literally bought the lexar mark, and is selling ssd under it. they are doing ssd base on china controllers and NAND ( designed and manufactured in china )

there’s not so much data on them ( besides them coping micron for nand ), as they are "fairly new", with heavy government subsidized.
