What is quieter?

Hello! I'm taco, and I come here today asking you a question. What is quieter? an AIO closed loop water cooler ex: H110 or a full custom loop? I know all in ones are a lot cheaper, but all my dad wants is silence, and room for mild overclocking. He thinks that that a full custom loop is the best thing to do ever, but they are a lot more expensive. Money isn't really an object to him, but I keep telling him that you shouldn't go balls to the walls custom loop if you want extreme overclocking. I ask him over and over what he wants and he says its silence ( but he has a friend that has a full custom loop and i think he wants to feel in the loop) ( see what i did there huehuehuehuehue). So the only question i really want answered is if a custom loop is worth it for mainly silence, or is an all in one a better option?

A custom loop is quieter if:

 

You have enough rad space to run fans at low speeds

You don't have your pump running super fast

 

Why not just get an air cooler? That's quieter than an AIO.

It depends on how many fans you're going to have on radiators and the fan's speed.

I would argue against that point if the AIO had some quiet fans but that makes it way more costly. 

 

 

 

Silence is something that some people will pay huge sums of money for while others just don't care. Its all subjective. If your friend has the money, the want and the ability then all the power to them. There no convincing someone who is already decided on something else, especially if its very important to them.

The pump can be really loud though.

some can be, I don't find mine loud at all. I'm sure there are loud custom loop pumps as well. Its all quality and price based.

Yeah, my H80i I used to have started to make a grinding noise I could hear through the house two weeks after I got it. LOL

mine would be sent back if I heard that. For some reason I would like to believe that the ASETEK ones are better quality but I have nothing to support that claim with.

I was going to send it back, but I didn't really want to deal with it. Corsair uses non-ASETEK coolers?

I believe the H60, H80I and H100i is a coolIT  design?

Oh, yeah. One thing I noticed (pretty general) is that ASETEK coolers look worse most of the time compared to these.

but don't suffer from software issues as there isn't any software, at least with corsair ones. No LED to break and very simple looking and really easy to install. But your right there's no extra styling to them.

Why I have a h110 and not a h100i. 

 

thought I would do a fun test, put my ear next to my h110 pump and I did hear a slight buzzing noise but thats it and with fans at 5v Its hard to tell its there even with the stock fans.

Maybe it was just defective.

plus I keep temps under or around 50c gaming, I could only image what having nice quiet higher RPM fans would be like. After about 15 minutes of prime95 I hit 55C. (Stock 3570k) This was also my first AIO install so I really have no clue how good of a mount I really have. 

 

So I do believe using an AIO it is possible to get quiet decent cooling performance, but its still more costly than air cooling.

Yep, I get really bad temps. Around 60-70C. That's with 600mm of rad space LOL

Oh, ok. The H110 is really good though.
