hi all,

i currently run corsair vengenace sticks, 2x16 3200mhz, i have a Ryz 7 5800x, 4070 super.

is there any benefit to me adding another 16 or 32 GB of the same RAM if I'm just gaming? what I found on google said anything over was overkill but I don't trust google search results anymore.

TIA & sorry if it's a dumb question.

Unless you are doing crazy modded games that require a ton of RAM.

No, not really. 32GB is plenty 🙂

You can easily lose more performance than you gain, because 4x sticks are harder to run on the memory controller and you may have to use a slower speed to stabilise it.

I ran with 16GB for a very long time. The only real issue I had was that I would play warzone and have firefox open on the side at the same time. Otherwise I was fine. You have 32GB and as long as you are just gaming and not doing very, very heavy multitasking you should be fine. I only ever upgraded to 64GB because I started hitting walls when I got into programming and had CLion compiling in one window and having multiple browsers open in others.

.

if the memory controller can handle it it's like a 1-2% gain in certain games iirc, not sure if it was hardware unbox that did the test.

not a dumb question at all, ive been thinking about 64gb ram for browser tabs+work+gaming. next build tho.

4x single rank sticks will perform better than 2x single rank sticks at the same speed.

4x 16GB might be a bit tough, or it might not be. 4x8GB is a breeze.

You need to tell us your actual usage first

How can we know if you need more?

I use 29-30gb running bg3 or Ark lately, which are heavily modded .

Just an example of games that can push ram usage high.
