Fiber & Powerline

Hi,

One reason also could be that the router has to be moved to the corner of the house and my room is in the other corner at top.

These are the adapters we use: https://amzn.eu/d/6MaWnGJ

That's why, they have 100Mbps ports (fast ethernet). It's bullcrap marketing they list 600Mbps when you cannot exceed 100Mbps due to the physical ports.

If you wanted to try for higher speeds you'd need a powerline kit like this with gigabit (1000Mbps) ports

We just got 500mbps fiber with BT installed. I  have been using powerline for about a year with our old wifi (50-60mbps) which was on copper wiring. Im using the same adapters and im only getting about 50-100mbps. When I plug directly into the router I get the full 500mbps. Does anybody know why this is happaning and how I can fix it?

Two reasons:

1) powerline is not a guarantee and is HIGHLY dependant on the wiring in the walls

2) Check your exact powerline model, I guarantee you they say like "up to 600Mbps" and have only 100Mbps ports meaning you'll never get more than 100Mbps.

Powerline can also be affected by "dirty power".

Really depends on your home if you can easily upgrade it to wired ethernet (e.g. drilling a small hole into the ceiling and running the cable in the attic).

Second best option is trying to get the powerline to work properly this might mean using a different plug that is further away from switching power supplies, fridge's and the like.

If wired isn't possible and cant get power line working might be time to invest into a WIFI upgrade.

The Declaration of Independence, once the charter of democracy, begins by saying that certain things are self-evident. If we were to trace the history of the American mind from Thomas Jefferson to William James, we should find that fewer and fewer things were self-evident, until at last hardly anything is self-evident. (G. K. Chesterton - Aug. 14 1926 (The Illustrated London News))
