Hi,

I completed my first PC build yesterday and I cannot get graphics card (RTX4070 super) to work.

If my monitor is connected to the motherboard display port it works well. If plugged into the graphics card the screen is blank. Motherboard diagnostic LED is green.

My specifications:

AMD Ryzen 7800x3d

MSI B650 Tomahawk Wifi

Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 4070 super

Teamforce Delta 32gb RAM (16gb x 2 DDR5-6000 30cl)

MSI MAG a850gl PSU 850 watts (600w cable to the GPU)

Cleared CMOS (removed / replaced the battery with PC off)

Updated BIOS

Tried both PCIE slots on motherboard - everything is seated well - did not work on either

Checked that memory detected and working in bios

Installed windows and tried to install NVIDIA drivers but drivers could not detect the graphics card.

When the PC boots the RGB gigabyte logo illuminates on the graphics card but fans do not spin. Power cord double checked and is all the way in.

Any help would be appreciated! So frustrating - my first build. Is it a bad GPU?

I would have thought it would still have worked without this but maybe not. Anyways if you haven't already then set the GPU to primary display in BIOS and see if that helps.

So if MB light is green that should mean the booting device is not detected or fail.

Either:

  • GPU Is badly seated
  • Power cable issue
  • Defective GPU

Just double checked and the MB lights / EZ debug LED lights are all off now.

I tried the GPU in both PCIE slots to try and troubleshoot the MB and neither worked. The GPU lights up (RBG gigabyte logo) but fans don't spin and no output with GPU HDMI or display ports.

Thanks for checking back Keskparane 🙂

Thanks PDifolco, I was not sure if the GPU was fully seated in the top port so I tired the other and that gave a better click and seated well but did not work. I will try to exchange the GPU and hopefully that will do the trick. Lol with my first build and all new parts I thought there was something I must be missing but maybe just got unlucky with the GPU...

Check the PSU pin connection. Clean the dark residue on the GPU circuit connectors.

If green light is blinking, it could mean that the power supply is receiving power but is not able to distribute it properly. This could be due to a faulty power supply

Although it's much less common these days, DOA (dead on arrival) GPUs do still happen.  I would suggest, if possible, testing it in another PC that a friend has or something, and seeing if it works there.  If it does work there, it's the GPU.  If it DOES work there, it's the slots on the motherboard.
More than likely it's the GPU being DOA, I would contact the place you purchased it from and get an RMA/exchange started.  If you got it from a local store (I.E Best Buy, Microcenter etc), you should be able to take it back, they'll verify it's defective then replace it.
