Budget (including currency): $2500 USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:  Valorant, CS2, Dead by Daylight, R6 Siege

Current PC specs:

Motherboard - Asrock B365 Phantom Gaming 4

CPU - Intel Core i5-9400F

GPU - Nvidia GTX 1660-Ti

Drive - Intel 660p NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB

RAM - TEAMGROUP-UD4-3200 2x8GB

Case - NZXT H510

Cooler - Deepcool Gammaxx GTE V2

PSU - 500w Bronze

Refresh Rate: 240HZ at currently 1920x1080 but would like to be able to possibly upgrade to higher resolution and refresh rate in the future.

Why I'm upgrading: Recently noticed my PC has been having trouble with running games which comes as no surprise to me seeing as it is now 5-6 years old, I am wanting to upgrade, would like to save any parts I can from current computer but also understand if it makes more sense to just scrap the computer completely and start from scratch

It's going to have to be a CPU+GPU upgrade. This also means changing the motherboard, the PSU and possibly the RAM as well, depending on your needs.

Building a 58 or 5700X3D with mostly second-hand parts would be the cheapest option as you'd be keeping your RAM, whereas getting an AM5 CPU would be costlier but future-proof. Intel has fixed most of its problems on the LGA1700 platform but AMD is still better value overall.

Ideally, you'll want at least an RTX 3080, 4070 or an RX 6800 if you want those 240 fps in CS2 to make your monitor worthwhile. That would also mean upgrading to a PSU that can feed at least 700W.

You can reuse the case, but it has poor airflow, especially by today's standards.

The NVMe drive can also be reused, but replacing it with a significantly better performing model is not that much more.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

265k + 7900xtx + 32gb 6400c32

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PL9cZJ

7950x3d + 7900xtx + 32gb 6000c32

pricing on the 7800x3d is a joke even with microcenter bundles cause if you buy a microcenter bundle you might aswell get the 7950x3d version with a better board and 8 extra cores for only an extra 100$

both builds are relatively overbuilt considering the boards aios psus so you wont have to worry about the board cooler or rams upon cpu upgrade nor will you have to worry about the psu upon gpu upgrade

4080 super would raise build costs by 170$ and have worse non rt performance so unless you need nvidia features id just stick with the 7900xtx

theres still 600$ left you can use for a monitor upgrade so you should be able to get a pretty solid monitor heck even an oled monitor like this though id personally rather get an oled tv than an oled gaming monitor cause then i can use it to watch movies aswell =p
