I hate Snapchat so much

I do not get why everyone likes this stupid app. I am a zoomer and if I want to talk to other zoomers IRL I need either Snapchat or Instagram (neither I want).

I do not get why people like it, if you want a good messaging app use Telegram or Signal.  If you want a good social media site honestly TikTok is better then Snapchat.

It's claim to fame is the "story" feature. I have no clue why people care about stories. They are just post with extra restrictions. They autodelete after (in case you are to lazy to delete stuff yourself) and have no comments, likes or ways to interact.  To add to the nature of Snapchat complicating things that didn't need to be complicated, they have this stupid companion app called "Sendit" this is kind of like a comment section but not really. So first it is a separate app, considering Snapchat has so many features that no one uses I have no clue why they decided that this needed to be a separate app. So people reply to the sendit and you then post another story with the comment reply like super imposed over it.  Again why is this better then a comment section ? You have to like post new stories with each comment and people have to click through them to see each reply when a regular comment section allows users to just scroll through and makes the comments harder to see.

I also feel like Snapchat can't decide if they want to add to be a semi anonymous platform like say reddit(what I mean by this is that even though reddit most likely knows who you in the backend other users do not) or a real life compliment like facebook. Facebook since it is a real life compliment allows you to just message anyone by default, this is great for finding people you met in real life, snapchat makes people friend you before they can see your messages and if they don't recognize your name then you can't message them. I got one of my lost and I had to make a new one and I still have tons of people I haven't gotten to friend me back even though I know their snapchat.

I used it back in highschool for maybe 2 years. From my experience it wasn't used to replace messaging but like Instagram stories to share random day in the life stuff to friends. Now it's been probably 8 years since I've used it extensively, but as far as I can tell it hasn't evolved much since then.

Though I too never understood the recent forced "diversification" of these platforms. Why does Threads need to exist? Why can't it just be part of Instagram instead of it's own separate app I need to download? As far as I can tell it's trying to be a Twitter competitor even though people still use it the same way as Instagram. Very rarely is there a post with just text, it's almost always accompanied with a video or selection of photos. So the only difference is the ability to repost to which... woohoo?

And for those who might say well news doesn't fit the format of Instagram... hey can I copy your homework?

I think it's funny that you call Snapchat, Instagram and the likes for "IRL talk".

They serve different purposes. Snapchat is for temporary chats.

Saying that you can just use Signal instead is, to me at least, kind of like saying "Why use Signal when you can just send an email".

I would argue its "claim to fame" is the automatic deletion of messages and its ability to track who opened what, how many times, if they copied the picture and so on. The fact that stories autodelete, have no comments, likes or stuff is kind of the point.

But I also think it depends on how you use it. I never interact with people I don't know on Snapchat, and the people I sometimes send pictures/messages to rarely upload stories. When they do it's usually just "look at this cool thing I am doing".

That is an unofficial app. You can't really blame SnapChat for that. Also, sendit seems to be a Q&A app, not a comment section.

Because it is not developed by SnapChat...

Due to the way big tech closed source apps like Snapchat work even if it is not developed by Snapchat there is clearly a licensing agreement or something.

Either you don't know what IRL means, or the younger generation has really lost it's collective mind if they need to use apps to talk face to face.

Honestly I don't hate any of those services I just stopped giving a F about them

In the third world whatsapp is the "must have" thing because everyone uses it for everything, sort of like snapchat but... chat, I guess... it also has "stories" because they all copy each other all the time, there's zero innovation and everything looks and works in the same way, bland and sterile platforms. I don't use it, old phone with no internet apps or google crap, if you wanna talk to me spend 20 cents on a text. There's people so cheap they won't do that and get mad at me for not using whatsapp, bro it's not mandatory I'm not gonna spend $500 on a brainrot phone, the fake ones leaves the real ones stay.

Pretty much everything Snapchat is doing can be done in WhatsApp nowadays. You can have status updates that auto-delete and even set it so all messages you send auto-delete after a certain amount of time.

Tbh I don't see the point in using anything else than WhatsApp and conventional phone calls to communicate with friends and family.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
