My system has been randomly shutting down, I replaced my old EVGA 1000 G2 with a brand new Seasonic Vertex GX-1200 and the shutdown persist. To be safe I want to buy a UPS.

System:

Ryzen 7 7800 x3D

16gbx2  of G.Skill f5-6000 ram

Gigabyte RTX 3070Ti

ASRock b650M Pro RS motherboard

I'm not sure how to determine what size of UPS I should get. Any insights?

UPS is a good thing to have no matter the circumstances, so a solid choice to make.

Regarding capacity, there's the inverter's capacity and the battery capacity. For the most part, you want to overbuy than ride the edge, since the UPS will squeal at you if you're too close or above the maximum load for the inverter to handle.

In your case, you'd want to look at a UPS with at least 750VA. I'd say just spend a bit more and go with a 900VA or 1000VA model which'll get some extra features. Its also enough headroom if you end up with a higher wattage GPU at some point. VA =/= W for reference, without getting into the trigonometry of it, the safe way to compare them is VA*0.6 (assumes a 0.6 PF) to get the inverter's true power output. There's also nothing wrong with just getting the top end of the consumer UPS's at 1500VA, which are usually 900W output capable with large batteries.

How are you thinking a UPS will stop shutdown?   You haven't mentioned actual power issues, or having bad power, etc.

Sounds like the PC has a hardware issue, which a UPS won't help.

any suggestions for a UPS that is good and affordable? I'll go with something around 1200VA since I am planning on upgrading my GPU in the next couple years.

Even just a couple brands for me to research would be great.

I looked at Eaton Tripp at first, after watching the LTT video on it. I just wanted to make sure I'm not overpaying for the features that I won't need like the removable console and RGB.

I don't know what could be causing the power fluctuations, just getting a UPS in case it is the cause. I've been meaning to get one for years.

1: buy one of those plug-in-the-wall wattmeter thingies, and measure the power usage of your entire setup (htat means pc, monitors, and whatever else you want to not conk out unexpectedly during an outage) during a high load scenario (gaming, rendering, benchmarks, whatever)

2: take that number, and double it, because most home/office UPS'es have absolute abysmal battery life above 50% load.

3: look for models from reputable brands available locally that are this number or higher in actual watts output (they are rated in VA *and* in watts, and because VA is the biggest number that's what's advertised.. but it's not that number you care about. to some degree the VA number makes sense, but i'm not here to give an electronics lecture)

4: if the model you find is not a 24 volt battery or higher, take a higher model until it's one with a 24 volt battery. again, this is for battery life reasons.

5: google the procedure to replace the battery, and make sure that it's something you can buy off the shelf or assemble from off the shelf batteries (for example, APC's 24 volt battery packs are just two bone stock 12V/7.2Ah lead-acids stuck together with double sided tape)

6: press buy.

7: replace the batteries every 1-4ish years, depending on how many outages it actually has to deal with.

Are you in fact experiencing household power fluctuations?

Power problems are generally obvious, flickering or dimming / brightening lights, flickering monitors / tv, etc. If you have not observed such behavior it's unlikely that a consumer grade UPS will correct any line issues.

it has been weird but i never had the light on when it shutdown so I'm not sure if the power to the room is the issue. Most times the computer just shuts off, but one time it partly shut down, i could still hear the music from my game but monitors were off. Ragardless of the real cause of the issue I still want a UPS, that said I would love to find the source of the issue.

Uhm, power only goes out in a single  room if a breaker trips and won't come back on unless you go to the breaker box and reset it.

So grab  a ups per the guides listed above and let's figure out the actual power issue.

Did monitors actually turn off it just have no signal from the GPU?  I'm betting the GPU is crashing.   Not sure if a driver issue or actual hardware issue.

I think APC is the leading seller, and I've had a couple in the past 3 decades.  Just really don't have power issues where I am.

Don't overpay for features tho, unless you're interested or trying to monitor something.

Just get the most basic one that just does the job.  I have used dinw wave and simulated since wave, and both worked perfectly fine.  In case you are going to ask that upon researching.
