It depends, it has high chance to work, how old is it?

 

Your only potential problem here is when manufacturer switches inner hardware for the same branded stick potentially.

 

I'd say it should be fine to purchase same model and specs. Especially if the PC isn't too old.

100% fine. The 5700X memory controller is mature for DDR4.

Chances are, adding another 2x8 kit will work. But there is a very small chance that you may have stability issues, then you need to mess around with timings and stuff to hopefully fix it.

 

I'm running two 2x8 kits of RAM with different die brands without issues, one set is Samsung B die and other is Micron B die. Back when I had a 2600X I had to adjust the voltages and tune the timings a bit to be stable, it was no biggie. After updating the bios and going to a 5700X it has been stable with no tuning needed, just turned on XMP and things were great.

prefferable to match ics so xmp will just work with no tuning required, all you have to do is check what ic you have and buy an oem bare pcb with the exact same ic usually via specific partnumber, good way to get specific ics if you are like me and do ram oc but also a good way to get a matching set for existing sticks so you dont end up with mix match due to random ics they use on generic bin plastic heatspreader xmp rams
