I'm pretty confident and satisfied with this build but I'm not sure on a mobo for it.

Most parts I already own. Just looking for a good mobo and cpu now, I just added them to give the whole picture.

Thank you.

(I currently have a i7-14700k)

edit: currently torn between- MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi Gaming and the ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WiFi

Any better ones I should know about?

I doubt there's any reason to pay more than the 170usd for a board like the Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX V2

The 7800x3d is a no brainer (apart from the new cpus around the corner)

Your 420 aio is massively overkill for the meager 80W. I like air coolers, they are humble, safe and reliable.

Your psu seems massively overkill too (it seems nice). But I guess you've got those already.

Agree with everything here for most use cases. Though I will say that the higher end motherboard and psu might be for over clocking.

From what I hear, he won't overclock that 7800x3d.

And about that 4080S... doubt it. On the contrary, the better move would be to undervolt that gpu.

There is no overclocking on the 7800X3D though, you undervolt it and reduce power load.  It's been tested that roughly any B650 board givers the 7800X3D everything it needs.

This.  Lose the 420 AIO, it's not needed for the 7800X3D.  Phantom Spirit cools mine just as well as the AIO I had on the 7700X (now a 7800X3D).

The whole build is a clickfest of the most expensive-ish items at various levels.

3x 980 Pro drives?  Uneeded for gaming.

1300w PSU?  Holy shit no.  850 or 1000 max for that.  ANything over $150 is just ridiculous.

$30 a pop for fans?  Such a waste, but may be an aesthetic choice.

Realistically it's a $2000 build, but if the OP wants to overspend, more power to them.

Yea I have a i7-14700k right now, so that would explain the massive cooler and strong psu lol. but with the recent drama of intel I'm deciding to switch platforms. right now I'm looking into the MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX AM5 mobo, kind of leaning towards this one. any thoughts

I appreciate the feedback and love the fish icon lol

So then yes, ignore what I said then.

Though why you're swapping without confirmation of any issues with your 14700k is beyond me.

I'd love to switch platform too 🙂 . The 7800x3d + AM5 is so sexy.

But realisticly I won't and probably you shouldn't either.

We should be very happy with what we've got and not indulge in the madness.

I'm trying not to indulge, it's not easy to resist the manipulation from the big players.

yea when I built my pc I decided to go as crazy as I could, the fans where a quality choice I wanted the best fans, those are what I landed on.

its also my work pc so I needed a couple tbs, I went with Samsung's due to the overwhelming positives and speeds.

phantom spirit is beautiful though I had one before.

I appreciate the feedback.

I don't know the full issues but from what I heard is that my gen cpu is just a ticking time bomb until it starts degrading, I didn't want to be there for it to degrade so I decided to be early to the switch.

if you have info saying otherwise, I would love to know and would save me ALOT of time.

I am very happy with what I have but the issue is that the 13th and 14th gen cpu are bound to degrade over time. I don't want a degrading cpu ya know?

so I'm just switching to avoid intel's bs

I would say everything seems fine, however I would consider waiting for the X3d refresh of Ryzen 9000. Prices on 7000 should go down and 9000 will likely have higher preformance.

Oh that's a good point, I'll look into that actually. thank you for the feedback

No, I can't guarantee that it won't but can't guarantee it will.  I can't argue the 7800X3D isn't a stellar setup, and if you're willing to move to it....more power to you.

I just balk at change, but if I think about it long enough I'll realize it's a smart move.  Just not sure how you'll be able to sell the 14700K + mobo, if possible, to recoup some.

Oh, and I get the balls out, nuts to the wall... but a lot of what you bought is balls out on paper only.  The Samsung drives are only a benefit to productivity (video editing, etc) user, and that PSU is never going to use more than 700w.   Dead money.

Next time balls to the wall.... buy the 4090 🙂

A member here wrote the 1700 socket isn't (long) dead yet, there are some meaningful upgrades planed, so the mobo can be sold.

About the cpu, it probably still has (extended) warranty, no ? If yes, it can be sold (or kept)

Yea honestly idk how I'm going to sell it but if there's a will there's a way lol

yea looking back you are 100% right about the psu it uses about 750w but I feel more comfortable with more than less, just a personal preference ig

Yea it's also my work pc, I do edit and create videos so I see them as worth it.

4090 is a bit too much balls for my walls XD.
