When I search up this laptop, it comes with two drivers of the same version, one 1.6mb and one 2.1mb. Have you tried both?

If you're not on windows 10, then you chose the wrong driver. the one you linked is windows 11.

okay so lets do it manually then - Can you get in device manager ?

After that if you see any unkown devices double click on them. A window will pop open. On window get on "details" tab. On propety section select "hardware id". You can it manuall with this idea.If you don't know how to , you can send hardware id to here so i can send driver.

If there is no unknown devices , widen the "mouse and other pointing" And select your mouse (if you plugged in a usb mouse - unplug it once to see which one is which.) Repeat the "hardware id" thing that I wrote above.

Hope it helps.

how its goin mate ? hope my post helps. Maybe drop a like or follow ? >w<

no ? i guessed that 😄

there aren't any unknown devices and still whenever i unplug my external mouse the mice and other pointing devices folder completely disappears, I've also noticed that with this laptop all the devices only ever seem to show up when you install hp's countless drivers.

I've been looking inside the file and there is a line of code to detect which version the device is. Is there a way i could retype that to force it to install? does anyone know what i could change in there?

As far i know there is no proper way to edit hp setups. Maybe someone could reverse engineer it 😄

But if pointer section is empty and no unkown device is shown. I don't think tis missing driver.

By any chance did you accidently disable touchpad in bios ?

Or maybe bios is funny. You can try updating bios as well.

Still no dice then backup your data and if it has warranty send it there !

If there is no warranty and you belive in your self and take apart your device. Try replugging touchpad.

Also you can try a ready to boot linux off a flash drive with updated drivers in it. See if it works there.

here's the problem the warranty expired awhile ago, and i've taken it apart twice now and replugged it way before asking about all this. the bios barely has any options so no i couldn't have disabled it either, it just stopped working one day and since it would never let me install the driver in the past i assumed that it was bc of that. might actually have to get a replacement touchpad if the drivers don't work. also i've tried asking hp bout this but their service is bout as crap as i expect.

i wonder if i could extract some .inf files or something from the package and install those directly?

you can find inf files that is not issue. issue is there is no device found to put that driver in to ! But i just remembered a terrible usb hub driver (usb 3.0) made this issue as well. And l dont know if you tried but linux test is also an option.
