Hey all, I am literally brand new to the PC sphere; I just got my self-built system up and running last week. I need to know what the best settings to change are. I have a Ryzen 9 7900x on an MSI pro x670 WIFI motherboard. I have a 2TB Samsung 990 pro SSD, 2 16GB Corsair DDR5 RAM sticks, and an MSI Ventus RTX 3060 12GB. If I recall, my MOBO can handle DDR5 RAM at 6600 MHz, but I currently have it OC'd to 5000 MHz. All my components are in a Cooler Master T500 mesh mid-tower case powered by a 1000W ATX Corsair power supply. I am still determining what my hardware is capable of; I only want to orient my PC towards gaming performance. Does anyone have any suggestions for tweaking my system?

Are you upgrading that GPU soon then?  1000w PSU is overkill by 2x for that system.

Your RAM should be running at 6000Mhz, CL30 if you can.  What RAM exactly did you get?

You can watch some videos on PBO/CO, which is the way to undervolt the CPU... for any AM5 chip...

What monitor are you using? your graphics card is fairly unbalanced considering the rest of your parts

With the modern hardware, you don't need to do anything if you are getting performance expected (as in close to numbers equal hardware has got in reviews). XMP and such are enabled by default.

My monitor is the Gigabyte GS32QC curved 165htz gaming monitor. Since this was my very first PC building experience, I went with the 3060. I plan on upgrading to a 40 series card down the road and then handing this one to my younger brother. What GPU would you suggest for a future upgrade?

I was planning on upgrading my graphics card down the road; the 40 series is what I was looking at, but it was outside the budget for now. As for my PSU, I went with the fully modular 1000W Corsair primarily because it was a future-proofing decision and could handle almost anything I plan to add to the system. The model type of Corsair's RAM I got is the CMH32GX5M2E6000C36.

with nvidia, you should do fine with a 4070 or better and amd 7700xt or better

hindsight is 20/20 but you could have saved some money on the motherboard by going b650 instead

Your RAM is 6000MHz, CL36.  So you should simply enable EXPO Profile and it'll run at that spec.  Running it at 5000MHz is losing performance.

Thanks! Changing that made my system quite a bit snappier. Should I leave my CPU alone? Its base clock is at 4.7 GHz, and the box says it can OC to 5.6

You can leave it, and it'll clock up to 5.6 on a single core when it needs to.

Or you can watch those videos I posted above and learn a bit more how to get a bit more out of the cpu all while being cooler and using less power.

It's not hard to do and won't hurt anything if it doesn't work.

I do it on both my AM5 systems.

enable xmp and that's it. modern hardware doesn't need "tweaking", you'd be most likely just making it worse tbh.

also make sure all drivers are up-to-date, that's about it.
