Z87 Gryphon Armor Kit

Go to solution Solved by Chris_nz,

yeah you can remove it, I have this kit as well, as long as your case is well ventilated you will have no problems :)

edit: you have the exact same setup as me hahaha

edit edit: you can Also turn the speed of it down in the Asus thermal fan controll thing ( cant remember its name)

its really annoying whining noise, ive just turned mine off, and only switchess on if it get over like 45C

Hi all,

I've recently installed the 'TUF Armor Kit' for the ASUS Z87 Gryphon, and it has this really noisy 35mm fan sitting behind the I/O plate. I assume it cools the power manager thingy (I'm a bit of a n00b).

My question: Can I remove this without causing any damage to the board? I don't want anything to overheat; I've got liquid cpu cooling (2 x 120mm rad exhausting out the top), and two 140mm fans pulling from the front. This is in the Corsair 350D if that makes any difference to anything.

Any advice here is greatly appreciated, thanks!

You can run that board without the I/O fan but I'd recommend lowering the fan speed first and see if its still noisy to you.   On Turbo or Normal they don't get that loud until full speed.  I run the Z87 Sabertooth; it has the same fan.

Motherboard temps go up about 5-10*C without those fans. make sure you monitor your temperatures if you remove them. A better option would be to not have the shroud on.

Sounds like you've got a pretty kick-arse system then :P

Thanks so much, everyone!

Does anyone happen to know the name of the software required to lower the rpm through the ASUS thing?

You can do it in your UFEI Bios or use Asus AI Suite's Thermal Radar Fan Control that you can download from their website.
