Hoping this is the right thread but I wanted to share some details about a recent build I did for a friend of mine. The PC was built with a few different purposes in mind:

  • Video editing for their YouTube channel
  • Playing games (mostly casual but want to get into more in depth experiences)
  • School work

So the objective was to build a PC which meets their needs today and will do so far into the future without falter, plenty of available space and capacity for upgrades and have a flashy (quite literally) appearance. So the following specs were selected:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D                                 | Seemed like near the top of the sensible line for their use case without going too crazy
  • Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite Ax V2                 | Compatible board with built in wifi (I know), DDR5 support, front USB C header, etc
  • Kingston Fury Renegade 32GB                     | Went only for 32GB to save some budget as they can certainly upgrade later down the line if necessary (I'm not convinced they'll need too)
  • WD Black NVMe M.2 4TB                             | Had the best $/GB at the time of purchase for WD's line up
  • Gigabyte Aorus RTX 4080                            | As crazy as you can get without going 1%, ready for video editing, hardcore gaming and VR
  • EVGA Super Nova 1000 watt                        | A fair bit above what is required allowing room for future upgrades and comes with a 10 year warranty
  • Artic Liquid Freezer III 360mm                     | Seemed decent, did end up being a bit difficult to install though I believe that was an issue of the case
  • 3 pack of Arctic 120mm fans                        | Fans must match for consistent look and we needed three intakes as I've decided to use the radiator as an exhaust
  • Arctic Fan Controller                                     | There are a lot fans
  • NZXT H9 Flow                                                | Massive, flashy and plenty of room for future upgrades

This thing is nearly balls to the wall without going 1%! Lmao I've attached photos in the thread too. The machine is certainly a bit overkill for their use case but I wanted to assure that there was plenty of head room for them as they embrace this new hobby. We did end up having an issue as one of the RAM modules we received from Kingston was a lemon so a separate kit had to be picked up from BestBuy, but its specs are the same, brand is just Corsair Vengeance. Curious what ya'll think.

Thank you, I totally didn't know where this should go. I replaced the images with .jpg's. I know the glass in the front got gross, I didn't realize it but apparently my hands were sweating while putting the fans in. Lmao
