Audio help

So I bought a 360 Slim, which of course has optical out, except I don't have an optical in on my surround sound. Also, it's HDMI to my monitor, which has no speakers..

 

I do have this cable http://prntscr.com/3mivo4 however it's making a really loud buzzing noise when outputting which drowns out the in game volume.

 

I'm quite honestly stuck for ideas and have no money to spend on equipment. My motherboard has an optical output, not sure if I could use that as an input - and even if I could, how would I then output?

does your receiver have HDMI input? You can use the passthrough. 

 

I'm also pretty sure you can use HDMI to your monitor and use the standard component connectors to go to audio.

I cut the stupid tap off the original composite cable and used that for a while, had no problems at all.

Surround sound doesn't have HDMI in or out - it's quite a few years old. 

 

I tried doing that, but that gives me a buzzing noise also.. Such a pain!

*shrug* I've never had audio problem with my 360 so I'm afraid I wont be much help, I've just used the standard audio output cables for my headset.

There's really no good workaround for that.

Okay so I've found the reason for the buzzing - it's when both the HDMI cable and audio adapter are plugged in. If I unplug the HDMI cable, the buzzing stops and audio plays. But, that's no good as I need a picture. Looks like I'm going to need something with optical in... I got such a good deal on the 360, but now it's turning out to be super expensive!

Or if you're worried about the quality (of a cheap product), maybe get a Fiio D3 Taishan?
