I'm currently using McAfee on my own pc but due to some recent money issues i need to switch to something free and I was looking into Avast, i was wondering has anyone used this and liked? it is it reliable? and will it be able to run on my home  server (running windows home server v2)

at any rate get weboftrust, as i say why try and block a potential infection when you can block the place it comes from. Weboftrust is a free software that is community driven, people rate sites and if its got a few negative reviews then its blacklisted and warns you before you enter. Its pretty much a god send and for it to be free is amazing.

What's an antivirus?

Jokes aside i haven't used one for years and not got a single virus. The only things it detected were false positives.

I think the last time i got a virus was a pop up one on windows ME and i'm not sure if that was even my fault :P (Probably Norton's)

I am currently using Avast free antivirus, and it works pretty well and has most of the features I often use, however it does have some annoying popup messages from time to time and I have yet to find a way to disable them.

You can disable them easily from the settings (As far as I know)

Well I was a beta tester, and I believe there isn't a best solution at all.You have to find something that fits your needs.

Freeware that you should try is Malwarebytes. The Microsoft solution here (Microsoft Security Essentialsisn't good at all because it crashes very very often and there isn't a lot of updates when It comes to the Virus Database.
