PC UPGRADE - What to do with my SSD from old PC?

Hello dear PC experts,

I'm upgrading my computer today and I'm installing my current SSD which currently has Windows installed as main storage on my new build.
But now the question is what happens to the old Windows files?

Can someone explain the whole process to me?

I installed Win 11 on a USB to then install it on the new build but what happens then and what happens to the old Windows files on the SSD from my previous PC?

Thank you for info!

They stay there, do you need to access them? Do you need any data on the drive? If you dont you can just format the drive and clear all data on it, and its a new usable drive then if you want extra storage in your new PC

Any other question ask away

Sorry I am new to this whole process so I gotta ask...

I don't need any files besides the new installed windows on that SSD but how can I format it before installing it in the new PC?
At the moment my system runs with that SSD so I can't format it with out deleting my PC basically 🤣

And once I installed it in my new PC there will bne a new win 11 installed to this drive but the old one is also still installed and if I format it once it's build in the new PC I would also format my new win 11 instgallation.

I hope my question is clear for you 🙂

Oh if you dont need any of the files and youre looking to reinstall windows onto that new SSD, by installing windows in the first place it will format your drive getting rid of the old windows anyway, it wont just pop it in with all the other stuff, so you should be fine to just download and install windows straight onto the SSD

I thought you had 2 different SSDs initially

You are a legend! That's excatly the answer I was looking for so once I boot from the USB I installed the Win 11 media on and choose the SSD to install Win 11 on all the other stuff gets wiped correct?

Thank you very much...That's exactly what I was looking for.
Are you also familiar in building new PCS?

If so could I get in contact with you on Discord if I got any questions while building the PC?

yes, when installing windows, it will obliterate (format) everything that was previously on the drive you're installing it to:
