how do i know mb bios version before buying

Go to solution Solved by Needfuldoer,

You won't.

The motherboard you get could be older stock loaded with the first-ever version. Or maybe you'll get a fairly recent one that's loaded with a BIOS new enough to support your processor out of the box. It's luck of the draw.

14th gen has been out for a while, so if you buy from a big seller that moves a decent amount of product, your chances of getting one that works without an update are pretty good.

That motherboard in particular supports flashing the BIOS without installing a supported CPU at all, so if your 14th gen CPU doesn't work you'll just have to follow that process. (No need to beg, borrow, or steal the cheapest 12th gen CPU you can get your hands on just to update the board.)

You can't anymore. Back in the good ol' days, they printed the version on the box, but not anymore. Instead try getting a rev. 2.0 instead og rev.1.x. Rev.2.0 supports 14th gen from the factory bios: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z790-GAMING-X-AX-rev-20/support#support-cpu

True, supports USB flashing, totally forgot that, nevermind getting rev. 2 then 😄

Gigabyte's documentation will tell you how to update the BIOS without a CPU.

See page 12 of their "unique features" guide:

You can only update it, to actually interact with the bios you need a CPU and graphics output

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad
