Steam Desk - official refurbished units, great pricing...

My gf has finally gotten into  PC gaming due solely to the Steam Deck (as a concept).  Being able to play together rather than find time to "get away" to get my game on is priceless.  Steam has official refurbished units but they seem to be the original LCD versions, not the OLED.

 

We play Palia currently, but have played New World and Enshrouded recently too.  Performs fantastic for a handheld and devs are actively optimizing for it which is nice.

nice to see valve found a sensible solution to "what to do with returned devices".

 

the price felt steep at first, but the more math i do to support that feeling, the more i feel like that's actually a pretty nice offer. (fyi: it's pretty much 20% off for the 256G model, rounded to the nearest **9 as valve does.)

Making that Z1 (non extreme) ROG Ally an even harder sell.

 

What's great is the across WAN game stream if you have a desktop. The battery life is absurd with the OLED version, so I imagine the LCD version would be also absurd. 

 

IMO, Steam Deck is worth it for the game stream feature alone for anyone who already has a capable PC. Even if they're not using it often, the times where you'd want it, its well worth it.

 

I think even if a Steam Deck 2 comes out, the first gen and OLED refresh are just too good to pass up.

For $360, the 512 OLED is a great deal.

I thought the 512GB model just had a nicer LCD coating, and that the OLED is a newer version of the Steam Deck. They don't mention the OLED anywhere on that page.

Interesting, as that will definitely make a difference to me.  The OLED is a gorgeous screen.  

 

I'll dig deeper.

 

Edit:  Looks like the 512 is just the LCD model, as no OLED is mentioned in the specs lower...  edited main post and subsequent ones.

I have an OG deck. Great device. Stardew Valley and Vampire Survivors is my two games I really enjoy on it. BG3 also worked pretty well on it, at least outside the city.
