Ping Question
I'm pinging to a server not another computer or to the modem
When doing a test on what is the culprit, you have to do a test on LAN as well, simply as a control.
For example, you are asking why your motherboard Ethernet port is so slow. Firstly, ping a random server (e.g: google) in CMD with both cards, then ping any device in your home (e.g: smart TV) with both cards and see actually what happens.
Perhaps I wanted to see the latency of my WiFi. I'd firstly set up my laptop on ethernet as the device that I was pinging.
Then, I'd ping it with my ethernet card
Then, I'd ping it over WiFi.
Then, I'd ping Google over WiFi
Then I'd ping Google over Ethernet
After that, I'd find the average of the ping times; CMD returns 3 separate ping times for each time you ping.
Record it in a table, and I'm done, I now know the extent of how faster cabled internet is and it would be a productive way to spend an hour or so.
The code in CMD is:
"ping [ip adress]"
And don't rely on Speedtest.net ping if that's what you are doing, it's abysmal.
