GTX 1060 6GB ASUS GPU Shuts Down after 5min of Gaming

blagomax

Hey everyone,

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue with my GTX 1060 6GB ASUS GPU. It performs flawlessly for everyday tasks and lighter games like League of Legends, but when I attempt to play more demanding games such as Elden Ring, it shuts down after about 5 minutes of use and gives no absolute error just like alt+f4. I've tried numerous solutions to resolve the issue, including:

  • Testing the GPU on multiple PCs, all exhibiting the same problem.
  • Underclocking and undervolting the GPU.
  • Changing BIOS settings.
  • Cleaning the GPU thoroughly and replacing the thermal paste.

Despite these efforts, the problem persists. I'm concerned that the issue might harder than i thought could potentially involve the gpu processor or other costly components.

I consulted a repair shop, and they suggested that the GPU might require a reball or reflow. However, the repair cost is around $40 more or less, which is beyond my current budget constraints. I'm hoping to explore other potential solutions before resorting to this option.

Here are the specs of my PC:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 4650G
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M H
  • PSU: 450W 80+ White (local brand)

If anyone has experienced similar issues or has suggestions for diagnosing and resolving this problem, I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks in advance for your help!

Maybe it's overheating? Monitor its temperatures.

You have an iGPU in there don't you? Try take the card out and play Elden Ring on the iGPU and see if it shuts down

Can you download GPU-Z, enable "log to file"(and pick a location to save the file), play or let Elden Ring run until it crashes, and then uncheck "log to file", and then post the file here?

It'll give us a lot of information.

I'd also request that you let it continue logging even after the game crashes for around 10 seconds. Also change the interval to every 0.3 seconds under GPU-Z Settings(hamburger/pancake stack button). The default is every second, and I want to go tighter to 0.3 seconds.
