Free Up Disk Space Utility - Suggestions

Hi guys,

 

Don't suppose anyone here has a good suggestion for a free utility that can free up disk space other than the Windows built in tool?

 

Just downloaded Far Cry 6 with the HD Texture pack on my girlfriend's PC and that + Win 11 + not much else = nae space left on my 256GB Samsung NVme drive.

 

I'm more than happy to by an new drive but just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions that can weed out any unused or redundant files.

 

System restore and the recycle bin have both been disabled and I've run the 'Free up disk Space' util within the control panel. I've also told OneDrive to free up all space as well.

That's presumptious.

 

@ChrisLoudon try WinDirStat - it will visualise for you what files and folders are being fat on the computer so you can manually pick what to delete that you may have forgotten about

Do you use hibernation or care about fast start which uses it? Turning off hibernation can save some GB from the space it reserves.

Did you use the advance settings? It exposes more stuff it can clean. Old Windows Update files can take up a bit of space.

The Disk Cleanup utility built into Windows does a good (though non-aggressive) job of cleaning up system clutter, but it won't touch your files.

 

A tool like WinDirStat will help you visualize what's eating up all your drive space.

 

If you're serious hardcore gaming, you'll want a bigger SSD sooner rather than than later.

Very presumptuous indeed! You've not met her. If it isn't buttery smooth, I get it in the neck lol.

Cheers. Gave that a bash and managed to free up about 8GB from the Hyberfile.sys file.
