yeah, A LOT! Imagine the muscles are the Cores and Threads and the Cache is the Oxygen and Nutrients (Super Simplified). With the 100mb Cache of the X3D Chip, you gonna make those muscle perform better

my currently system:

seasonic 850watt

r9 3900x ( no oc atm ) +noctuas cooling

32gb ddr4 3000mhz

4070 (non ti, tripple fan) 2550*1440p@165hz

2080ti (offshelf)

What this pc is used for: streaming on twitch + gaming (wow / ow / crew     -games/ ark/etc..)   fps get lower with new patches games

sometimes i think i feel the the cpu is struggling, but might be sumtin else.

so should i replace the cpu or you guys say keep it as long as it works?

It all depends doesn't it?  Yes it works but so does an 16 year old CPU as well.

If its not performing as well as you want then you should replace it with a faster CPU.

Its up to you to decide if its worth the extra money for a new CPU.

I would upgrade.

use msi afterburner with the in game OSD and enable everything you want to check to see what's the problem e.g. if RAM usage is maxing out, then it's most likely that

cpu temps are fine.  no need screenshots / know them from ma head

only games like : the finals reach up to 72Celcius( cpu) / gpu 61)

i always play at screen rez 2550*1440 max refresh rate etc... max quality/no blur play with shadows/rtx on-off

wow: between 45 -140fps depending area/content @ 55*c cpu/ under 60 gpu ( this game low fps drops botthers me the most)

overwatch: cpu +/-65*c / gpu 60-63 @165-222fps

the crew : motorfest cpu 68*c / gpu arround 60 - frame locked @60 fps

ARK: 71*c on cpu / gpu 60-ish, 45-76fps

idle mode all fans 30%(ish) cpu temps between 35-43*c

ram is fine, never saw is go over 8Gb/11GB so...

pc ram is a bit slower but won't make that big of an impact i assume.

Get a 5700X3D or 5800X3D, you'd lose 4 cores but the 8 remaining work faster and you have the 3D cache for gaming

Your CPU might be a slight bottleneck for your GPU.  The 3900X is 2 3600, or, a better explanation, you have 4 sets (CCD-s) of 3 cores with a huge latency between the CCD-s.

A 5800X3D or 5700X3D would be the ideal gaming upgrade for you. A 5700X would do too, but it wouldn't be a great fit for a stronger GPU.

The X3D-s have 1 CCD with 8 cores (so no huge latency between the cores), the cores are stronger and they have a lot of L3 cache which affects many games.

They do. I switched from a 5900X to a 5800X3D because the 5900X was bottlenecking my 6950XT.

They will make a big difference at 1080p or 1440p low competitive settings, or even at any res in CPU heavy games like Starfield, BG3 or DD2

Plus Zen3 is overall snappier, better manages RAM, etc

so 2133Mhz, depending on task this can be both fast and slow, the CL latency is at least low, but the processing power is quite low for what the Ryzen can handle

@191x7 @PDifolco guys shouldn't we consider this quite low RAM speed considering on DDR4 you're usually rocking 3200/3600Mhz on modern machines?

His post states 3000 and that's fine for a 5800X3D. With a regular Zen3 I'd aim for 3333, 3400, 3600 or 3800 RAM but for an X3D 2933/3000/3200 is just fine.

His signature shows an i7 6700K and ddr4 2133, maybe that was the previous machine, and maybe now he's running DDR4 3000 at 2133 because the XMP (DOCP) profiles aren't loaded?

@Sumtinwon is your DOCP (XMP) profile loaded in the Bios? If you have DDR4 3000 but running JEDEC spec 2133 you are severely limiting the 3900X. Please check your Bios settings. And add a few CPU-Z screenshots here.

fastest way to check is through Task Manager, it should show the current RAM clock too in the performance tab

Zen 2 is pretty slow. Even Zen 3 literally smokes it. So pretty much any Zen 3 part that is not cut down will be an upgrade if all you do is game. In 5900X's defense, it is a fast CPU, but not at its stock power limits. I find myself going back and forth between my X3D and 5900X quite a bit. X3D is defiantly easier to cool.

So your RAM isn't 3000 but 2133? Or is some of your RAM 3000 and some 2133 and thus it works on 2133 together?

You can do a few upgrades;

a) a completely new platform like a Ryzen 7000 series CPU, 32GB DDR5, and a B650 board

b) 32GB DDR4 3600 RAM, keeping the 3900X CPU

c) DDR4 3600 and a 5700X

d) DDR4 3200 and a 5800X3D

2133 is simply too slow for Zen 2 and Zen 3, limits the CPU a lot.
