Easy way to fit a hyper 212 in a 154-158max case

About a year before covid, was putting together a budget a gaming. I needed an ATX case that could fit a 10" gpu. I had plenty of fans so it was pointless to spend $40+ on a case that came with fans.  So, I picked up an $18 Thermaltake (Versa or V3) from microcenter.

Everything fit but the panel wouldn't quite close.

TLDR: Hyper 212's heat pipes nubs make in 158-159mm tall, the case only fit a 155mm cooler. Since the panel needs to slide down & over to close, couldn't just drill 8 holes.  I spent <5min, haphazardly dremmeled a pair of squares in the panel.

That works if you don't have cats.

I lost one Mobo that way (kitty used the GPU and heatsink as a ladder)

A kitten??? Just the nubs were sticking out?? Was it the kitten of a puma??? 😉

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

Cat snapped the pcie slot when I didn't use a side panel. CPU&heatsink were fine. Pciex16 slot housing bent, half the pins pulled out.

Wow! That makes sense, tragically so! Whenever I accidentally left my panel off, I was always so relieved when I got home and my PC wasn't damaged by our cat.
