CPU suggestions (10-11 series)

So I will be upgrading my pc within the next 5 ish weeks and I've decided to change my 6500xt out for a 6800, my current CPU is an i5-11400f and I wanted to know how much better an i7-11700 is and of its worth it or if there are better options for upgrading my CPU. I mostly play Rainbow 6 Siege, Asseto Corsa Competizion, Fortnite, and Minecraft, and yes I know that Fortnite and Minecraft don't need much to run them but I play both in a competitive scene so things do get laggy when alot is going on. So basically I'm just wondering if the i7-11700 is that much better that I should upgrade or if there is another CPU that is worth it.

no, no you're in the right place, for example I can understand that these games can indeed be very hard to run for specific settings or use cases,

11700 is decent,

I'm only wondering why is your 11400F lagging, it has 6core/12t on pretty decent clock speeds,

which situations/games is it lagging?

Its not really lagging but mostly it lags in Fortnite when I'm endgame with like last 5-1 zones but also with the new season the map got more textures making everyone lag more which sucks. With r6 it really doesn't lag i stay around 160 fps with low - medium settings but also r6 is a gpu heavy game and the 6500xt isn't very good. with Minecraft I don't lag I'm not very worried about that but i do crystal pvp so sand goes flying and lots of explosions so I can drop from 500 down to 100 sometimes. Asseto Corsa is just a very graphic intense game as it is so i get around 100 most of the time with medium low.

Now I do believe it may have a little lag but I also just hard reset my pc bc of a virus that somehow got in there and I had to change everything but its good now but every now and then in Minecraft when loading chunks it does get laggy but also i mostly play on crystal pvp smps or pvp servers so its loading crystals which are entities so that's mostly why.

yeah I heard that a couple of times but is it worth upgrading or is there a better upgrading option? I'm only looking to spend about 250 ish.

Nah id keep the 11400. Yes the 11700 is better but also its basicallt just 10% faster in games so now worth the money.

Especially for an older cpu like that.

Is there any other cpu I should try upgrading to? If you have any suggestions over 250 that's fine I can take that into accountability.

yeah, but also R6 and Minecraft are quite CPU intensive,

the only problem is the performance jump isn't significant as @jaslion said,

I'd honestly check if you're getting the most out of your 12400F first,

how's your PC set up for gaming? (drivers, XMP, etc.)

ah

lag is very fucking annoying literally cripples your ability to play just because input lag and some other shenanigans due to low framerate

bedrock player here that plays pvp on a phone and basically everything but a higher spec phone that has been modded and rooted to get rid of bullshit cpu throttling will lag to complete shit, not even 60 fps but more like 45-30fps and thats on my moms note 20 ultra, 1200$ phone my fucking ass it cant even run minecraft smoothly due to bullshit cpu throttling

pisses me off to no end and i hope to buy a used xiaomi when i get some cash just to be able to play mc again at a decent framerate and actually improve at it cause im pretty sure ive regressed ever since i took a hiatus around 8th grade after playing a bunch of cubecraft capture the flag and completely demolishing most pc players i come across once i warm up and go full tryhard =p  (basically went from comboing the crap out of anyone i see to playing abit too defensive and dying cause of it, but maybe thats just because i play skywars alot more often since ctf is kinda dead now)

welp theres no more pandemic so not as many ppl online anymore cause ppl actually have lives including me (sort of) but i still wanna have some fun from time to time playing competitive pvp

afaik esports games and especially minecraft really like cpu performance so thatd probably be #1 priority to upgrade

you wont be getting any real upgrade on 11th gen so move to 12th or 13th gen, zen3 is more of a sidegrade with a 4.7-4.8g 5600(x) outperfoming a 12400 due to how low those chips are clocked but loses to a 12600k since alderlake has better ipc

11400 + b560 maybe youd still be able to get somewhere around 100-150$ reselling it used so add that to the upgrade budget

6500xt is pretty trash so i have no idea if anyone would buy it used unless you sold it alongside your cpu and mobo since used 6700xt are around 200$ maybe with the cpu + mobo you can sell all 3 for 200-250$ total but likely towards the 250$ mark since afaik ppl will pay a little extra when theres a gpu included in a cpu + mobo combo and especially helps to sell it since 11th gen isnt really that desirable nowadays

might also wanna resell the rams too but if you arent exceeding 16gb theres no need unless you are swapping to a ddr5 platform

as for the upgrade microcenter has a 7700x bundle for 370$ which is a cpu + mobo + ram combo, they do also have a 12600kf combo for 250$ and you can add your current rams to it but considering the extra resale price from also including the rams, 7700x having much better singlecore than the 12600kf (minecraft loves singlecore), and am5 having an upgrade path where you just drop a new cpu in without a mobo nor ram swap (rams can be tuned to the new cpus needs), the 7700x bundle is just better all around

as for the gpu used 6700xt should be around the 200$ mark (usually slightly under from what ive seen) with used 6800(xt) around the 250-300$ mark atleast referenceing my own countries used prices (indo) which seem to usually be inline with the rest of the world

wow, that was alot lol. But yeah my motherboard only supports up to 11 series so that's that but I was also thinking that I could get a new motherboard instead of cpu and upgrade cpu later i just have to find a motherboard that supports a 6800 and 11 to 13 series cpu.

The microcenter thing sounds amazing tho, could you send me a link to that?

What did you mean by the ram reselling thing though, I'm a little confused as I have 16 gb of ram.

Well I'm not 100% sire what u mean by my setup and drivers, I mean is there specific ones i should download I just thought I should only use the ones it says to download when u get it.
Also I don't know if it was a typo but I have a 11400f not 12.

11 / 12 not much great difference:

the links are those underscored pieces of text

and whats the budget for the gpu anyways considering the 370$ 7700x combo?

~250$ gets you used 6800

~300$ gets you used 6800xt

~350-400$ gets you used 6900xt/6950xt

500$ gets you a new 7900 gre

though do keep in mind that the jump from the 6800xt -> 6900xt is not that much and same goes for 6900xt -> 7900 gre

as for reselling ram if you do go for the 7700x bundle i linked then you arent gonna reuse your ddr4 since am5 is a ddr5 platform and the bundle already comes with 32gb 6000c32 rams so you can resell the rams alongside your cpu mobo and gpu as a combo on the used market since theyre all relatively undesirable parts

yeah I was thinking 380 for a 6800 new from what I could find, although seeing u say that same amount is 6900xt do u think its better to get a used 6900xt than a new 6800?

so sadly I don't live near a Microcenter, the closest one is Virginia and that still far, the bundle is only available if u can pick it up so that's out of the question now.

absolutely

though youd probably be better off saving your money and getting a used 6800xt instead as 6800 -> 6800xt is a rather substantial difference while 6800xt -> 6900xt not really, so you can just buy a better gpu thats cheaper than than new 6800, used 6800xt should be around the 300$ mark or used 3080 pricing

in that case id just reccomend a 12600kf + z690 since that should be a decent upgrade for pretty cheap and you can reuse your rams
