No onboard video? what do i do?

Matriox

Hey I just got done building my pc with the GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3P motherboard...not knowing there is NO video output on the motherboard

But I do have a R9 290x installed and I plugged that in(HDMI) thinking it would work but still no output.

Please help and tell me how I am supposed to get video out from this stupid motherboard. thanks

You get video out of the R9 290.

I want to re-use the word you described your motherboard, but i feel like i would be bullying you.

Do you have power cables plugged into the GPU?

Try the following checklist. Some points are obvious, but anyway:

  • Powercables plugged in?
  • Can the powersupply handle the GPU power?
  • GPU correctly placed in the socket?
  • Have you used the right socket?
  • Is the GPU OK? Have you tried another one?
  • Is your MB OK? Have you tried another one?
  • Is the GPU compatible with your MB? (firmware update maybe?)
  • Is your monitor working?
  • Is your HDMI cable broken? Have you tried another one?
  • Are all of the other components installed correctly?
  • Have you overclocked (maybe from a previous build?)?
  • Have you tried removing the backup battery from the MB?

You do not need to press f12, unless you want to go into the BIOS.

Good luck, and if this checklist dos not work, I would love to help you getting this build done.

You need to make sure all your pci express power connectors are plugged in first.

Yes i have switched them out many of times to see if anything would happen and still nothing shows up.Like i said the power is just fine(all fans on gpu are running).Do i need to use displayport? or does it not matter?
