Is this build any good?

Budget $650 US

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Stat citizen, Fortnite, Minecraft, Satisfactory, Pcvr, and some others, and just browsing in general.

Other details 1080p No Peripherals, (will be reusing a 1660 from other pc) I already have a Wi-Fi adapter. One monitor. The reason for the upgrade is my current CPU is a i5 7400 3.0ghz, my other parts are 2400mhz of ddr4, 1tb SATA, and 600w white psu. Also the connectivity issue for mobo to CPU is a bios update.                                                                                       https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KmTqgB

Your build works although that cpu cooler is way overkill for that cpu and your choice of board is nothing to write home about.

send full specs of current build cause that what i assume to be a 1tb sata ssd is still reusable so no need to buy another ssd

if that ram is a 2x8 or a 2x16 kit its also reusable, simply tune it to 3200mhz (4gbit hynix mfr), or if its a double sided kit tune to 3800mhz (4gbit hynix afr or samsung d/e die), just send thaiphoon burner screenshot to identify ic

am4 is a horrible choice to buy new with the only exceptions being the 5700x3d and the occasional <70$ b450 board that isnt garbage like the m/ac or pro4

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pByDFs

12600kf + 32gb 6400c32

technically this is all you need since you arent swapping the gpu so no psu needed nor is a case swap needed

you can go even cheaper with used am4 with 5600(x) at 70-90$ or 5700x 5800x at 120-150$ or 5800x3d at 200-250$ and used b3/450 like the gaming plus/tomahawk at ~50$ or less, just reuse the rams tune to 3200/3800 and you are good

am4 will get you a better gpu if you wanna swap the gpu since you arent spending as much, but even on this 1260kf combo theres still 230$ left so resell that 1660 for 80-100$ or whatever theyre worth and get a used 6800(xt)

and if you happen to be near a microcenter theres a 7700x bundle for 370$, add the cooler and its 400$ so abit cheaper than that 12600kf combo but much better especially singlecore (better for gaming), they also have a 12600kf combo for 250$ but imo not worth it since you wont be getting a much better gpu (6800xt -> 6900xt) and am5 has a much better cpu alongside a good upgrade path

Do you have a good PC caes right now? Reusing it could save a bit more money to be put towards something else.

Yeah I was just throwing stuff at OP they can ponder as they have a good amount of options.

Could even get a new GPU if they wanted to keep some other components. Or maybe get more drives or more RAM with keeping the other stuff. If aesthetics is warranted then maybe pretty fans and lights. Maybe save some budget and get other peripherals or monitor

If you already have a monitor then go for any of the builds in the quote below based on if you want to sell your 1660 to get other better parts or not

Thank you for all the help, I will probably go with your ideas.

If the price is right,  going with ryzen 7000 could pay off good because of the future support for new CPU's plus a bit of better performance.
