Hello everyone! My upgrading situation turned into the worst nightmare ever.

My previous specs were a 2060, Ryzen 7 1700, B350M-A, 3600 Corsair 16GB and a 750W PSU. I upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5800x and RX 6700XT the rest is the same!

i uninstalled my old Nvidia drivers and installed my new AMD drivers, I loaded league it was fine it was pushing 900FPS then I capped it out for my monitor and tried some other games, loaded BDO, Warzone, Palworld. All of them were at 20 FPS, changed settings did everything I could nothing worked! Then I thought maybe I sat the GPU bad, I resat the GPU then the nightmare began. I loaded my PC back up and it went into BIOS and couldn’t boot into Windows, I checked and my M2 was missing from Bios and decided to readjust it etc, never showed back up. I had a drive with Linux installed from like a year back, never used Linux before but said whatever might be able to boot it up and fix my issues by reinstalling windows. Found out very quick you can’t make a virtual USB on Linux and you need an actual USB. For whatever reason no USB works in my MOBO or PC, I don’t have the money for a new MOBO or SSD right now and no way of getting windows back on my PC, I’m ready give up and just sell the PC but I’ve asked for help everywhere and nobody has been able to help. If I was able to I’d just buy a new MOBO and SSD and call it a day, but since I can’t do that I really really need help. I’m losing my mind this has been the worst day in a minute, I’ve been up for 16 hours trying to fix the PC and it’s a living nightmare right now

Good news. I have some info that might help with this. Either: Your SSD is toasted, or, you have inflicting gpu drivers. Are u sure you completely uninstalled the nvidia drivers? I have seen that issue before. But...... I might have to summon the secret weapon.....

I used DDU and double checked so I’m pretty sure.. I do believe the SSD is toasted but it’s weird it popped back up. Also I can’t boot into my windows at all now I can’t even check the drivers I have to sold the SSD issue first Also it’s strange no USB will work on my motherboard, can we please summon the secret weapon!

That seems like a plausible cause though doesnt explain the lack of USB support

Yes that’s what’s weird to me too, I can’t grasp why no USBs are showing up

Im wondering if its less of a SSD and more of a mobo issue, but you could try reseating the cpu.

How are you mounting the SSD? with a standoff?

Did you update BIOS?

Also, when this is all done (if it gets resolved, hang in there for a while, we'll find something) reinstall windows as youve changed CPU

I have the most recent BIOS update, I’m thinking it’s a MOBO issue as well considering it’s not taking USBs and the m2 mysteriously stopped working out of no where. The SSD just goes sideways into a slot then pinned down with a screw

Yeah, but is it angled down or sitting flat on a standoff

Without Standoff

r/techsupportgore - a close up of a computer

With standoff

r/pcmasterrace - Motherboard didn't come with screws for an m.2 drive, used the other m.2 slots standoff instead

Okay, absolutely add that standoff in, but the drive, if badly bent could be done for, but its not a guarantee, do you have another computer to test it on, school, work (both provided they let you), a friend or family member etc?

I do not have another way to test the drive sadly, nor a stand off unfortunately, and none of my friends game they’re all console players which is why this is so hard to find the issue

Regardless, get a standoff for that drive or a replacement drive if you get it. Your motherboard should have come with standoffs if you bought it new but you should be able to get ones super cheap off ebay or something similar. Though the lack of being able to test it is annoying

I’ve had the motherboard since about 2021 or 2020 I can’t remember, and I bought it used in a PC already, so I’m assuming it’s close to have running it’s course since it’s already an old motherboard, the PC I bought was a prebuilt with a 970 Ryzen 5 2600 and overtime I slowly kept buying more and more parts for it and finally went for an upgrade selling my Switch, wheel setup, etc, to try and afford the parts needed but sadly was short on the motherboard so hopefully I’m able to get a new one soon and the nightmare will end

Yeah you might need to save up for a new one, and possibly the drive too, you could try loosening the screw slightly so its not under as much pressure without a standoff in the short term

... i get the no money issue (?) but that's the thing with pcs...  so you mounted the ssd wrong,  somehow... probably!  (no one really knows)

so you have several options:

reset CMOS

return the mobo

return the ssd

return both

buy a new SATA ssd and try with that instead of the probably toasted current ssd.

(id try this honestly,  a decent 250gb is like 20 bucks)

and if its still not seeing any usb which you probably need to install windows, try to reset CMOS, unless the motherboard is really toast that should fix it.

Both pictures are wrong.

Edit : sorry, I did miss quite a lot of information, I understand now

Standoffs are easy and cheap to buy though and buy one you must
