Thermal pads and beyond?

Hey, sorry if this is a thing already covered, but it caught me off guard when I saw it.

A "700W/mK" graphite thermal pad.
Seriously, WTF?
Is this stuff for real?

I'd like to see it get the torture test next time thermal interface material gets a spot on the show.

Wouldn't surprise me, graphite has some of the best thermal transfer of any material we're aware of. It also performs rather terribly as thermal pads because it doesn't fill in the microscopic bumps and grooves that all the components you would want to use thermal pads on have. They're better than no thermal paste/pad, but more traditional thermal paste and pads do tend to perform quite a bit better.

Thanks for the reply. I think most of the contact issues are abated by the adhesive film that makes the actual contact. I would "assume" this because of exactly what you stated about graphite in pad form. If this adhesive is thermally conductive and also performs the gap filling needs, then the pad would (could) still be very functional. It's just that the 700w/mK figure is a real eye catcher. lol

My current paste of choice is GELID GC-Extreme. I found it even a little better than my last favorite. I recently had to remove a heatsink treated with this after a few months of use. The existing application was completely reusable. It was as if I just put new paste on it. I was, of course, very careful to make sure no dust got in there and it was still evenly applied. Thermals were precisely the same as before I removed and reinstalled it. This product normally rates within 1 or 2 deg C of any other paste until you get to liquid metal and AIO coolers. Price was right and it applies very easily. I'm a thin film spreader, I do not do the blob or "X" in the middle and squish. 🤣

since it has 40 reviews now then it's most likely a scam. That many reviews in that much time without being a big company is weird
