If adding LEDs to a fan only requires little mounting holes, why do most suck?

Probably the worst offenders being Corsair's LED fans. Crappy sleeve bearings, weak air flow on par with a stock fan from a case, and 25dBA isn't all that impressive.

Is it really that hard to take a premium fan and add holes?

According to many reviews I have read, they perform exactly the same as the none LED versions

To be fair, Corsair fans aren't the greatest to begin with. It kinda bothers me a bit that instead of using Hydraulic bearings like the rest of their line up, they opted for the cheap sleeve bearing instead. LEDs can literally be had for cents and I'd imagine a company as large as Corsair can get them even cheaper in bulk. To use inferior tech on top of so-so specs...why. What is the point of using different bearings if the major diff is supposed to be light and a couple of small LEDs.

There has to be a legit reason why there are no LED fans on par with the top tier ones retailing 20usd + per fan in terms of performance, silence, static pressure, design and long life span. It's like there is a compromise.

LED's don't cost so much to implement and since they can be pretty tiny on a pcb I don't see why not but the fans some fans don't have the best positioning of LED's. I do like the Corsair AF140mm with the translucent fans with white LED's not bad nice and bright.

Meh people say this, but there are plenty of reviews to say they are fine. Maybe not the best but certainly very good. I am super happy with mine, i find their cooling performance really good and they are very quiet

they complain about the noise of the performance ones but still give them a good overall review. My SP 120 quiets keep my i7 4770k (stock) at  between 30 and 50 degrees (idle/load) on my h100i

( from reviews the LED versions perform the same but just have LEDs)

Is it wrong to want a fan with over engineering of a Noctua, but the fun playfulness of an Enermax Vegas fan? :V

No, we all want that :(

the plastics required to create a transparent fan are far different from those used in the performance fans, as such they have different acoustic properties and will direct airflow differently

Mhm they always tend to be more "hard" so probably vibrate a whole lot more

Tbh, if you want the best fans around and are willing to spend lots of money on fans, an led strip can be had for about $10, so I don't see the need to LED Fans.
