Bought 7900xtx - Is it compatible with RM750x PSU

Your PSU almost certainly came with more, you'd just need one extra to get 3 connectors.

Hi Guys,

First post here, not too sure in protocol so I’ll just jump right in with my issue. Hope someone can help.

I purchased a 5 year old pc from a friend and wanted a CPU and GPU upgrade. I opted for a 7900xtx and a Ryzen 5 5700x3d.

1. Will the RM750x be sufficient for this build?

2. The GPU requires 3x8 pin cables, I currently have 1 sleeved cable that branches off into 2 6+2 cables from the old GPU in place. Is there anything I can do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Connor

7900XTX seems to peak at ~365W or so, so even if OCed likely not breaking 400W. Your CPU and the rest of the build won't pull 350W unless you have 50 case fans or something. Should be good.

Buy new cables. Corsair should sell replacements, Cablemod also makes aftermarket cables if you want them in a different color.

750W will be ok with a 5700x3D, 7900XTX is max 400W

But the 750W PSU should have at least 2x Pcie 8pin (or 6+2) cables, one won't be enough

Am I okay to keep current cables where they are and just plug in 1 8 pin cable or would it need to be a 6+2?

cheers

An 8-pin PCIe and 6+2-pin PCIe are the exact same cable, they just split 2 pins off for those who have a GPU that takes a single 6 or an 8+6. An 8-pin EPS is a different cable, but won't fit unless you have some impressive strength and brute force it (as they are keyed differently), so no worries about confusing cables. You should be good with the dual 6+2 cable you have now + another 8-pin.

Doesn't need to be a 6+2 unless you need it to be a 6+2 (if your GPU has a 6 pin power connector, which it doesn't) so you can use another 8 pin

Will this be okay?

-snip-

I wouldn't advise buying an unknown brand cheap cable for any GPU, especially one this expensive. Get a replacement from Corsair directly or a reputable aftermarket company. Corsair also has several types of cables depending on PSU generation, so "for corsair" without listing models doesn't fill me with confidence.

Thank you everyone for all of your help, I decided to buy 3 individual 8 pin cables (corsair) and just cable tie them for presentation.

I appreciate all of the replies.
