GOG Client - Slow downloads or is it just me?

just to start i've got some terrible internet speeds - 4mbps down. it's not the fastest but it gets the job done. the problem now is the gog client. i prefer downloading the games via the client rather than the browser cause it's a bit more reliable/sustained + it's kinda just like steam. the problem now is it just downloads games really slow. like 1gb is generally about an hour but that probably goes up to like 2 or 3 via GoG. and the download menu shows the speed at about 1mbps which is fine but then the progress bar just gets stuck at a percentage for like a whole hour or something before updating by a tiny amount.

 

anyways, have any of you guys had a similar problem with the client or is this just my current situation?

Works fine on my end. Got an update that it's downloading right now.

 

 

Could be that it downloads part of the game and your PC already starts decompressing and installing the files simultaneously. If the hardware on your profile is the one you currently have, you're running older hardware and a fairly slow HDD with no SSD. That could be the culprit for why the client doesn't saturate your connection.

probably but steam doesn't exhibit the same behaviour which is why i was thinking it was a gog galaxy thing

Is it possible to change server location like in Steam? 
Maybe you should try flushing your DNS cache or reboot your modem. Sometime it just poor routing to GOG server.
