Freemake video converter and downloader - terrible performance

I recently started using the freemake video converter and video downloader software I bought about a decade ago, but they are both very slow on my pretty powerful PC and very fast network connection. And the support is terrible, just pointing me to the same support page over and over, which tells me to reinstall the software, even though I just installed. 
 

Anybody else who’s had issues with the freemake software?
