Seagate FireCuda 530M 2TB

Hi, 

I have this Seagate FireCuda 530M 2TB installed in Asus TUF A15 Gaming 2023 and it is running pretty toasty... Is it ok for it to run so hot? It hits 80°C even when doing practicly nothing.

That is weird for an idle temp. Do you have a heatsink on it?

Well it is in laptop... And the tepms are ok untill I do anything on the drive. Can be opening images, playing game (LOL) and it goes down to 60 in like 30 min.

It’s one of the coolest, top PCIe 4.0 SSD, but it still need some cooling.

 

does it share cooling with any other component?

or is it not cooled at all ( no termopad or anything ).

what type of material is on top of it ( plastic, aluminium, magnesium ) as it looks like aluminium…

The cover is plastic with metal like layer. What do You mean if the SSD is facing up? Like if the chips are on the top side? It has chips on both sides...

is the bottom part of the laptop case, that is touching the SSD facing up, aluminium? 
if it’s aluminium, I would remove the cover, and use termopad, to sink heat in to the aluminium shroud. 
looking at the indentation, in the plastic cover, you probably don't need thick thermopad.

Yes the SSD is facing top. About the termal pad... I don't think it will help. I opened the laptop and it is really thin layer, I  don't think it will help. But I will try.

It is all just estetic but I tryied the thermal pad thing and it maxed at 75°C under CrystalDiskMark. The bottom of the laptop is hot as hell but the disk isn't.

If it doesn't burn your lap, then it’s ok.
heatsinking to plastic, well you can do that ( plastic back phones do that ) , it’s just not very effective…
