Which motherboard should i get for my new PC ?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy a new PC and i don't know which motherboard to get.

Should i get the MSI Z790 MEG ACE-MAX or the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 Dark Hero ?

I've heard that Asus MB build quality and BIOS stability are bad is that true?

*Also wanted to ask if any of those MB support 4 sticks of 7200Mhz with XMP on or even 2 sticks on that speed?

i need 64GB or 48B of RAM, currently i'm  looking at the CORSAIR Dominator Titanium

BTW this is the build:

Intel Core i9-14900K Processor Tray
Corsair iCUE LINK H170i LCD Liquid CPU Cooler
MSI MEG Z790 ACE MAX EATX LGA1700 Motherboard
Corsair Dominator Titanium RGB 2x24GB DDR5 7200MHz CL36
Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Crucial P3 4TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
MSI GAMING X SLIM GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16 GB Video Card
Lian Li O11 Dynamic EVO XL ATX Full Tower Case
MSI MEG Ai1300P PCIE5 1300 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Corsair iCUE LINK QX140 RGB Starter Kit 82.5 CFM 140 mm Fans 2-Pack x3

Those are ridiculously highly priced motherboards, do you really need these?, similarly the dominator titanium and 990 pro, honestly, get vengeance or trident z5, 980 pro or just something cheaper than samsung, a cheaper motherboard, a cheaper PSU and honestly you should have saved enough to upgrade to a 4090

Whats the use case and end goal of this build? Gaming? Productivity?

For gaming i would get a 7800X3D, its literally a better cpu for that while being cheaper and with the above changes you will absolutely have made up the difference to a 4090 and thats a decent upgrade over a 4080S, along with a better cpu and all the other parts which you wont be able to notice a difference with to begin with

System specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D [-30 PBO all core]

GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT NITRO+ [1050mV, 2.8GHz core, 2.6Ghz mem]

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL32 DDR5

Storage: 2TB SN850X, 1TB SN850 w/ heatsink, 500GB P5 Plus (OS Storage)

Case: 5000D AIRFLOW

Cooler: Thermalright Frost Commander 140

PSU: Corsair RM850e

Yup, i need those parts especially because i need thunderbolt connection and i don't want external card.

But it still doesn't answer my question should i get the MSI Z790 MEG ACE-MAX or the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 Dark Hero ?

My personal preference would probably be MSI, i feel like even though overpriced, ROG branded things are almost always the most heavily brand taxed parts going, so for the same price (from what i can find online currently) youll get more from the MSI board, though just be careful with that motherboard as it EATX, make sure your case is able to fit those size of boards

If youre unable to get a case for an EATX board that will probably be the deciding factor for which motherboard the dark hero is just ATX i believe so thats the option i the former is unavailable

There are also all these options https://skinflint.co.uk/?cat=mbp4_1700&xf=17969_tb4exist~317_Z790~494_Diagnostic+LED

85% of the time productivity, Cubase mostly and those music production plugins and program need a lot of CPU & RAM resources

and the external audio interface need thunderbolt connection

What's a cheap, crappy Gen3 Crucial P3 SSD doing in this rig with only the most overpriced parts ?

That's true for everything...

Seriously rather get a good Gen4 SSD (WD 850X, Samsung 980..), they're not that expensive when compared to golden plated mobos at $1000 😛
