Boot Up Issue

aero36

Hey! Been having issues during boot up for awhile and haven’t been able to get it work properly.

Whenever I turn on my computer from full off (so from the switch on the case being off, if I leave the switch on and turn off and on from the button this doesn’t happen) the GPU/mobo go off and on 3sh times before booting to this error screen:

No description available.

I press F1, go to BIOS, and then F10 out and I go to my PC.

What I have tried so far:

1. I updated my BIOS

2. I replaced the CMOS battery

Any ideas?

Not sure if it makes a difference, but this light comes on as well:

CMOS batteries are not rechargable.  That seems odd, but they are only used when the system power supply is off.

Do you usually switch off power at a power strip or unplug the pc?  It seems if the cmos battery were drained, it will lose date and time as well.  The other cmos battery may be just fine, so keep one spare.

Windows 11 will just force business to "recycle" "obscolete" hardware.  Microsoft definitely isn't bothered by this at all, and seems to want hardware produced just a few years ago to be considered obsolete.  They have also not shown any interest nor has any other company in a similar financial position, to help increase tech recycling whatsoever.  Windows 12 might be cloud-based and be a monthly or yearly fee.

NoScript or EFF's privacy badger addons can block many scripts and websites that would load and track you, possibly halving page load time!

F-droid is a place to install open-source software for android, Antennapod, RethinkDNS, Fennec which is Firefox with about:config, lots of performance and other changes available, mozilla KB has a huge database of what most of the settings do.  Most software in the repository only requires Android 5 and 6!

I recommend firewall apps (blocks apps) and dns filters (redirect all dns requests on android, to your choice of dns, even if overridden).  RethinkDNS is my pick and I set it to use pi-hole, installed inside Ubuntu/Debian, which is inside Virtualbox, until I go to a website, nothing at all connects to any other server.  I also use NextDNS.io to do the same when away from home wi-fi or even cellular!  I can even tether from cellular to any device sharing via wi-fi, and block anything with dns set to NextDNS, regardless if the device allows changing dns.  This style of network filtration is being overridden by software updates on some devices, forcing a backup dns provuder, such as google dns, when built in dns requests are not connecting.  Without a complete firewall setup, dns redirection itself is no longer always effective.

If your system fails to POST 3 or more times in row your mobo will reset bios to defaults and you'll get the post screen shown., This is usually caused by unstable hardware when booting the computer.

Usually culprit is either

  •  unstable cpu overclock
  • unstable cpu undervolt
  • unstable ram clock speed/timings (ensure you are using xmp profile)

The green light should indicate motherboard has passed POST check and proceed to boot to windows.

The motherboards manual should state what the lights indicate. Usually Red for fail, amber for testing, and green for pass. There usually is a coloured led for CPU, RAM and VGA.

I don't usually switch off at the power strip, just the switch on the tower itself. When I reboot the time/date starts around the time I last turned off, and then corrects after a moment.

I don't overclock, and I'll have to look up what Undervolt is. I did see an XMP setting in bios, I'll look into it and see if that helps. I probably should have checked the manual lol, I'll do that next.
