So they took the wheel, and made it needlessly complex?... I'm not seeing the point here.

Interesting, but I think some of the Boston Dynamics stuff is more impressive. They're not as fast, I think their cheetah runs ~28mph. But they're using legs, rather than leg-like things mounted as a wheel.

Here's my personal favorite, the sandflea:

CPU-AMD FX 8350 @ 4.9Ghz | GPU-Sapphire 7970 OC | Motherboard-AsRock Extreme9 990fx | RAM-8GB Mushkin Blackline Ridgeback

Case-NZXT Switch 810 | Heatsink-NZXT HAVIK | SSD-Samsung 840 250GB | HDD-Seagate Barricuda 1TB; WD Green 2TB
PSU-Seasonic X-Series 850 Watt | Mouse-Razer Naga | Keyboard-Razer Blackwidow | Speakers-Logitech z623

It does, but they're structurally compressible rather than inflatable (that way they won't pop or puncture).

You can hear the softness of their bouncing in the video, the loud noise when it jumped off the building was from it bottoming out because of the height.
