What exact PSU is it?

If its a nice one Corsair or SeaSonic then yes, But if its one of those that catch on fire at 50% load then no..

Saying you have a 900W PSU means nothing w/o stating the brand and model, if you have a generic PSU rated at 900W, you ought to be worried....but, if you have one from a known maker of quality PSU's like Seasonic, SilverStone, XFX, Corsair and the like, you're safe.

A 550W-600W power supply would be more than enough to power your system. What is your budget and where are you buying from?

1. You won't need 900W for a single GPU system.

2. Please tell us which PSU you have or are planning on getting.

Coolmax is crap. They aren't the lowest tier of crap, but they haven't managed to become better than crap. Please oh please change that PSU.

There are some other reviews of Coolmax units on JonnyGuru.com. Most are pretty unimpressive and some exploded. The Coolmax CUQ-1350B was actually pretty decent though (for 2008), scoring 9/10.

You might want to read this review:

You have to usually take NewEgg reviews with a grain of salt, but this one is a execption...

As long as you get a quality brand PSU you could get away with something like a 600W PSU. Please have a look at this:

http://www.overclock3d.net/articles/power_supply/how_many_watts_do_you_actually_need/1

I like that video but my gpu was recorded at 300w at maxed out because it has 3 fans built in, but I may crossfire the 290x so I may get a EVGA/corsair 800w+

I only thought it was good because it was 80+ bronze and i saw good reviews about it

That would be way more than need 600 watt would even be plenty, I would only go with an 850 or 900 or more if you are planning crossfire in your future. Also I have heard plenty of horror stories of lower end psus destroying good systems. I got an 850watt silverstone in my system, going to run dual 780ti gpus eventually. You got to think a psu is like the heart of your system, it supplies the blood aka electricity to the everything in the system and if you got a bad one you won't live long especially if you are getting worked hard and that weak heart is pushed to far.
