Which to buy? (CPU)

Stormseeker9

Budget (including currency):  €250ish

Country: NL

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming (more so single player, non shooters), normal use.

I started a thread last month about what CPU to choose as upgrade for my current system (see signature). The choice was between 5700x and 5800X3d, and I was waiting for BF deals for the x3d. However, until now this CPU has not been on sale yet, the others have so looking at other options for now just in case.

Price for 5800X is €189

Pric for 5700X is €166

Price for 5800X3D €325

Unless the 5800x3d somehow drops to around €250, would it make sense to pay the little premium and buy the 5800X instead of the 5700X? Im not sure if a +€135~ is worth it going for the 5800X3D. I game on 1440P, next upgrade will either be GPU+monitor, or a complete new build.

Thanks for your advice in advance 😄

I think the 5800x is a decent upgrade over your current 2700x.  Yes the 5800X3D is faster but that doesn't make the 5800x slow!

€135 premium for the 5800X3D might actually be worth it if you want to use a higher end GPU. Have a look through this.

I would wait for 5700x3d or 5500x3d if you wanna get cheaper.

edit: Any X3D chips are worth it for gaming. even the 5600x3d beat 5700x in most games.

Thanks Both. just after posting GN released his 2023 'black friday' "best of 2023"  video!

here he also says best value upgrade is the 5800x3d.

Welp, let's hope that by Friday the CPU maybe get a €30-50 drop as offer. Otherwise looks like i'll just have to bite the bullet.

Whole other question to you both: I game on 1440P, thinking of getting a 4K monitor next 3-6 months. What would be a suitable GPU upgrade for my current system (assume 5800x3d) keeping this in mind and probably a budget of around €500/600? 😄  Thanks!

5700X. That cpu is newer technology vs the 5800X, it runs cooler and uses less juice than the 5800X.

Its just lower clocked at stock. The confusion comes out of comparing b0 and b2 stepping, if not from stock clocks.

5700x still offers better value and these freshly made ones usually hit +200MHz -20mV or even -30mV with pbo curve optimizer.
