+12v rails? Will an Evga 660 Ti work In My Pc?

Go to solution Solved by flibberdipper,

On the Dell PSU you add the +12VA and +12VB rails together, which gives you 34A or ~400W.

It should physically fit,

My current psu (Dell) has 460W (which should be enough).

I have two 6-pin connectors.

But I noticed Evga's requirements say:

" a minimum of 24 Amp on the +12 volt rail."

https://www.evga.com/products/specs/gpu.aspx?pn=5c293ec3-c729-4a91-a80d-2add1f459407

Do one of my psu's have that? (see pics)

Can you add the amps of two +12v rails?

Which ones do you add?

Also, my Thermaltake psu has a 20-pin connector

(as well as at least two 4-pin connectors)

But my Pc has a 24-pin slot (Dell Xps 8500).

Can I put a 20-pin connector and a 4-pin connector into the 24-pin slot?

First 2 pics should be dell (connected to my pc)

Other 2 pics are thermaltake (the black 20pin connector)

^If I search Tr2, it says a Tr2 500W thermaltake psu is compatible with a 660 ti

I'd like to use the Dell psu tho, since that's easier, and who knows if my Pc's bios is picky with other psu's.

Both of your PSUs have a 12V rail, that's basically where the power comes from.

You shouldn't need to worry about adding amps.

You can use a 20+4 pin connector in a 24 pin header. Modern PSUs split the 4 pin connector out to be compatible with earlier ATX motherboards that only used a 20 pin connector.

GTX 600-series liked to have power, I'd trust the 500W unit a little bit more than the 460W Dell unit.

Almost no BIOS is capable of caring what kind of PSU you have installed. As long as the proper power is supplied in the right places, it'll run.

@Crunchy Dragon Thanks.
So, if the 460W psu isn't enough, it will simply shut down, right? It's not gonna explode or damage anything, right?

Both psus are pretty meh but if it works it works

If it doesnt work go spend another 10-20$ on a used psu that is single rail and actually half decent

The GTX 600 era really wasn't that bad, especially once you get down to something like what the OP has. 660Ti's use pissall power, IIRC the average TBPD was something like 110-120 watts.
