Is it possible to overcharge device?

Unless it is really ancient or has a bad implementation of battery management, you can't overcharge. Battery management prevents that.

Couple of days ago I found my MP3 player which I hadn't used for more than one year. I connected it to my PC case for charging and I forgot about it. I remembered it after four days. Can that constant charging shorten the lifespan of battery?

If you keep it charging forever that's not good for batteries.  If you leave it on for 3 days it won't do anything.  Make sure you take it off the charger not leaving it charging all the time.
