fingerprint nerfed on s21 Fe

after a software update my dads S21 Fe's fingerprint scanner was NERFED! it no longer works almost any way it was intended to you fail 5 times before it unlocks but OH NO your locked out for a minute and have to use your pin this was so strange and my dad was very annoyed does anyone have a solution

Maybe it's a hardware or firmware issue on his unit? I'm using most recent software available for my S21FE and the fingerprint reader is extremely reliable and works through gloves even.
