I've posted recently about static build killing my laptop.

Apart from the obvious (when I gets back from the shop it's going to live in a different room)

Are there any products that would help it feels like someone should have invented something like a usb cable that just connected to the earth pin on a plug

A cheap humidifier?

I live next to a river it's normally around 70% it's all wooden floors

It's really odd I have a work laptop and a personal one as does my partner

Had a call for the repair shop they can't find a fault they are going to reset the battery (not 100% on what that means assuming it's ether disconnect and reconnect or something else)

Like that but attaches to the laptop

that is your power supply/power plug.

The ground plane goes to the ground pin.

Thats why when building a computer, you can just hold onto the PSU plugged into the wall and be grounded.

Ground isn't "real" it's just the Ground reference voltage we call it 0 because it's convenient. Voltage is a delta/difference measure, not an absolute measure of charge. That would be Coulombs.

At least in North America, "ground" literally is the ground.

The ground pin on your outlets is tied to a bus bar in your breaker panel, which connects to a wire that attaches to your cold water pipes or an 8 foot long copper rod driven into the dirt.

Neutral also ties into the ground in the panel, but it's also the center tap of the transformer on the street that feeds your house.

Electricity is weird.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Thanks for clarifying that I thought it was from the plug to the brick was ground but not from the brick to the device

Totally I have a very strong memory of being sat in school had a lesson about electricity and thinking to myself I'm not going to be an electrician so this is not relevant to my. And now I vape.

What does the vaping have to do with it?

When you understand electricity, you realize it's AMAZING!

I'm fairly sure static electricity didn't kill your laptop in a 70% humidity home.  Literally impossible to generate static in that much humidity.

Did you drop it or did anything tug on or jack the power cord?

If you vape nicotine there is a lot of stuff about voltage and resistance that if you understand it it's a lot easier to pick out a vape that works for you

Was that on carpet or on the wooden floors? If carpet, anti-static versions should solve that https://staticsmart.com/esd-carpet-tile/. Otherwise, get an anti-static mat from GN or someone else. As long as it is grounded, you are grounded and your laptop is grounded to you at least, but should reduce buildup anyways. =x

Are sure it's not taken a power surge or lightning hit? Hopefully you don't use $12 so called surge protection power strips from Wally World or Amazon.

That doesn't seem likely I had a baffled call for the repair place Wednesday saying they can't find a fault but he would do some more testing. The repair tracker says it's complete so fingers crossed there will be a full report and it's something else that's been fixed
