GPU requires 3x8 PCIe input. Power supply only comes with 2x8. What should i do?

Gpu (rx 6800 msi trio) requires three 8 pin pcie connectors for power. My 650w corsair non modular psu only comes with two 8 pin pcie connectors. I’ve tried running it without the extra one and the gpu fans spin but the pc doesnt post

You should get a new PSU that is compatible with your new GPU.

 

I do not recommend using adapters.

Simple as that. Your psu wasnt made to run 3 pcie cables and adapting other cables to it is A TERRIBLE IDEA as they WILL cause failiure of some part.

RX 6800 will never fully utilize all 3 8-pins fully. It's for extreme OC. It's possible the card can run with just two 8-pins similar to how on most motherboards you need just one 8-pin even though there are more ATX plugs.

Well, in that case just upgrade PSU then. Running molex or sata adaprers to PCIe power is to be avoided as these cables are not built to handle the amount of current the card will require.

Alternatively, if you have the option to, you can return the GPU and choose one that uses just 2X 8 pin connectors rather than 3.

What PSU is it ?
6800 is "only" 250W TDP and *should* be good with a 650W PSU if you use a splitter

I think splitter should work fine too but if he already has both 8-pins from one cable then I'd rather avoid it. If those are two completely separated cables with 8-pin each then it should be fine.

Oh yes I was supposing it was 2 cables

If the PSU only has 1 cable OP should replace it !
