I want to ride a bike!

Cy-Fy

Hello guys, I live in the UK and i'm 15 years old, it will not be too long before i turn 17 and as far as I know, you can ride up to a 125cc at that age, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

The only confusion I have is to do with the very simple stuff, for example, if I get a bike and a provisional license, how am I meant to ride the bike to the place where I get my CBT if I'm  still not qualified to ride? or that sort of thing. Also That was one of my questions, if I get a provisional license and a CBT, can I start to ride straight away with absolutely no problem forever if I want to?? would I need to show P or L plates or something for a period of time??

Thanks very much guys, oh and last question, what do you think would be a good / fun 125cc bike that would last me for ~ 5 years or even more?? I would be using it for "commuting" from home to school and back.

Thanks guys you're the best :P

Hi Cy-Fy

The New laws they just put in place made it harder to get your bike license , 1. if you have your own bike by the time you take your test you cant ride it to your test , you would have to get it transported or you can use a bike from the testers , 2. after you have done your CBT you will have to get Insurance and stuff before you can ride but if all that is in place then as soon as you have passed you test you can ride :D and 3. what style of bike do you like ? , P.S im building my own 125 as i am a big person and im too big for the normal 125's

this should help a bit

Go moped that's where its at

ummmmm no he was asking about 125's , plus moped are more dangerous ,break more easily and harder to work on if something goes wrong with it , most 125's now are based on other 125's so it easy to get parts for , not to mention Mopeds are DESIGNED to last only about 3 years

My honda mt5 would disagree with that last bit  B)

I have no idea what kind of system you use in the UK, But Good luck!

Thanks very much man, I just have a question about that picture, it says that for A1 license you would need to drive with L plates, is that forever until you do the practical or just for a period of time? oh and tbh I like anything and everything, that looks good and is fun to drive, and safe of course! I was looking at some chinese ones like the sinnis apache but you know, I just don't fully trust chinese vehicles hehe :D

if you just do your CBT than the L plates will stay on until you do your A2 license , or you can do your CBT , Theory and Practical and ride a 125cc bike without l plates , i would suggest you look for something second ( but decent) hand on ebay , something like, honda cg125 , honda cm125/cb125 or if you want something fast go for a nice yamaha RD 125 or TZR125 , the alternative is that you buy new , AJS NAC 125cc is a nice bike and i think they are about £1400 or so :)

Is it classed as a bike in the uk?. Over here it's a moped xD

Judging by your description of mopeds i'd guess you're talking about the vespa style^^

Sooo jealous about that x1 though. I wanted one SOOOOO bad!. I couldn't find one at all when i was shopping for mopeds  -_-

Yamaha : ybr125

suzuki : van can 125 or marauder 125

honda :cbr125 (very reliable and there is loads of spare for em )

kawasaki : eliminator 125 (2009 model)

but i would advise going for second hand you can pick up some really nice deals and you dont want to wreck a brand new bike if you get hit by a car

my dad bought a Triumph trophy 1200 for only £400 , and my 125 has only cost me £25 so far :)
